Masataka Yoshida might require thumb surgery
Red Sox manager Alex Cora indicated Thursday that Masataka Yoshida could wind up requiring surgery on his injured left thumb.
Advice: There’s significant concern that Yoshida could wind up requiring an extended absence as the Red Sox continue gathering medical information after he landed on the injured list earlier this week with a left thumb strain. The 30-year-old slugger, who has transitioned to designated hitter almost exclusively this season, underwent an MRI earlier this week and the club has declined to provide an update on his status. There should be some clarity on whether he’ll require surgery at some point later this week.
