    • Encouraging outing
Thielbar threw 1.1 scoreless innings without a strikeout or walk Thursday against Arizona.

Advice: It was a confidence building performance for Thielbar who had struggled in June. Thielbar had allowed nine runs (seven earned) and eight hits in his previous 3.2 innings over seven games. He had seemingly lost the ability to control his big breaking curve ball, but looked back to form Thursday. He's been limited to lower-leverage roles while he works out of his slump. • Davis Daniel goes eight scoreless in 2024 debut
David Daniel shut out the Tigers for eight innings and struck out eight to prevail in his 2024 debut Thursday.

Advice: Daniel allowed just four hits in the 5-0 victory for the Angels. His velocity was actually down from his major league outings last year — he averaged 91.7 mph and topped out at 93.0 mph with his fastball tonight — but he induced 13 missed swings and had a 35% CSW. We’re still not particularly optimistic here, even if his peripherals were considerably better than his 5.33 ERA in Triple-A, but it’s certainly a nice start that should serve to keep him in the rotation for now. • Secures first career save
Hodge worked around a hit to toss a scoreless 10th inning and earn the save in Thursday's 5-3 win over the Giants. He struck out one.

Advice: Incumbent closer Hector Neris pitched a clean ninth inning, then Hodge closed the door in the 10th, giving the rookie his first career MLB save. The 23-year-old righty has been solid so far with a 1.80 ERA and 15 strikeouts across 10 innings. The veteran Neris should stick in the closer role for now, but Hodge seems to be a viable option if the need arises. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 7:55 pm

    • Rangers release reliever Nabil Crismatt
      Rangers release Nabil Crismatt.

Advice: Crismatt made five relief appearances earlier this season for the Dodgers before heading over to the Rangers, where he didn’t end up getting a call back to the majors. The 29-year-old righty should be able to latch on somewhere as emergency organizational relief depth. He’s made 114 appearances in the big leagues since 2020. Rotoworld Yesterday, 5:51 pm
    • José Quijada (elbow) starts rehab assignment
José Quijada (elbow) started a minor league rehab assignment on Thursday.

Advice: Quijada is working his way back from last year’s Tommy John surgery and will need at least a few more rehab outings in the Rookie-level Arizona Complex League before facing some higher-level competition. Rotoworld Yesterday, 5:33 pm

    • Shuster gets win with three in relief
Jared Shuster picked up the win while throwing three scoreless innings in relief in the first game of a doubleheader against Atlanta.

Advice: Shuster came in to work three innings of bulk relief after Chad Kuhl exited after three frames. The 25-year-old is the 27th player for the doubleheader against Atlanta — Shuster’s former organization — and he made a case for staying up while striking out two and allowing just one hit. Shuster has pitched well in his limited chances with the White Sox, but even if he did get called up into a full-time role, there’s a lot working against him as a potential fantasy option. • Michael Kopech picks up save vs. Atlanta
Michael Kopech pitched a scoreless ninth to get a save Thursday against Atlanta.

Advice: Kopech didn’t allow a hit while picking up a strikeout. That’s the sixth save of the season for the 28-year-old, and the scoreless frame lowered his ERA to a still-shaky 4.59 on the 2024 season. Kopech is a trade candidate that could be playing elsewhere, but his fantasy value would be severely limited if he’s not a closer. Rotoworld Yesterday, 4:56 pm

    • Oliver Ortega undergoes season-ending surgery
Oliver Ortega underwent season-ending surgery on Wednesday to remove a bone spur from his right elbow.

Advice: Ortega underwent elbow surgery back in late March to remove loose bodies in his right elbow and underwent an additional procedure earlier this week that will end his season. The 27-year-old righty was claimed off waivers last October from the Twins and has yet to pitch for the Astros. Rotoworld Yesterday, 4:43 pm

    • Returns from injured list
The Tigers reinstated Faedo (hip) from the 15-day injured list Thursday, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.

Advice: Faedo made three rehab appearances at Triple-A Toledo, during which he gave up one run over three innings while striking out four batters and walking four. He owns a 3.38 ERA and 1.18 WHIP through 34.2 frames in the majors, and he'll slide back into a middle relief role now that he's been cleared to rejoin the Tigers' bullpen. Keider Montero was optioned to Toledo in a corresponding move. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 4:00 pm
