Nick Martinez gets clobbered in loss to Padres
Nick Martinez was clobbered in a losing effort against the Padres on Wednesday, giving up five runs on eight hits over his 4 2/3 innings of work.
Advice: The right-hander punched out two batters on the evening while issuing one free pass. He served up a solo homer to Luis Arraez to begin the ballgame, then kept the Padres’ offense at bay until they scratched out a run in the fourth inning. The wheels fell off in the fifth though, as they tacked on three more while chasing Martinez from the game. The 33-year-old hurler got just four swings and misses on 66 pitches on the night, posting a CSW of 18 percent. He’ll carry an uninspiring 4.81 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and a 31/6 K/BB ratio (43 innings) into Monday’s matchup against the Cardinals.
