    • Not ready to start Sunday
Taillon (back) will not start Sunday's game in Pittsburgh, Maddie Lee of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Advice: Taillon had to be scratched from a scheduled start Friday due to back stiffness. He had hoped to take the ball Sunday after throwing off a mound Saturday, but while the mound session went well, he's not quite ready. It's not clear at this point when Taillon might be ready to make his next start, but there does seem to be optimism he can avoid the injured list. Rotowire.com Today, 7:03 pm

    • Set to start Monday for Detroit
The Tigers are set to promote Manning from Triple-A Toledo to start Monday against the Marlins, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.

Advice: Manning is set to rejoin the big club after Kenta Maeda was placed on the 15-day IL due to a viral illness. Manning started for the Tigers as the 27th man against the Cardinals on April 30, when he gave up four runs on seven hits and two walks over 4.2 innings while striking out seven in a no-decision. The 26-year-old right-hander holds a 0-1 record over three major-league starts with a 4.24 ERA and 1.18 WHIP this season. Rotowire.com Today, 3:04 pm

    • Likely Maeda replacement
Manning will likely rejoin the big-league rotation with Kenta Maeda (viral illness) being placed on the 15-day injured list Saturday, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Jack Flaherty is currently listed as the starter for Sunday's game against the Astros, but given that Manning was scratched from his Saturday start for Toledo, it's possible he could start Sunday, or at least Monday against the Marlins. Manning has a 4.24 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 17 strikeouts in 17 innings through three MLB starts this year. Rotowire.com Today, 2:50 pm

    • Gets Saturday off
Tucker is not in the Astros' starting lineup for Satuday's game against the Tigers, Julia Morales of AT&T SportsNet Southwest reports.

Advice: Tucker has gone deep in four of his last five games, and his 12 home runs on the season is tied with Atlanta's Marcell Ozuna for most in the majors. Joey Loperfido will start in right field Saturday and bat ninth against Detroit southpaw Tarik Skubal. Rotowire.com Today, 12:49 pm

    • Kyle Tucker gets rare day off Saturday vs. Tigers
Kyle Tucker is not in the Astros lineup for Saturday’s showdown against the Tigers.

Advice: It’s Tucker’s first day off this season. The 27-year-old fantasy superstar clobbered his 12th round-tripper of the season during Friday’s series-opening win over the Tigers. He holds a career-best .965 OPS with a league-leading 12 homers through 38 contests. Rotoworld Today, 12:32 pm

    • Jameson Taillon questionable for Sunday start
Jameson Taillon is dealing with renewed back discomfort and might not start Sunday’s series final against the Pirates.

Advice: Taillon will test his back on Saturday to determine whether he’ll take the ball for Sunday’s series finale against the Pirates. The 32-year-old, who missed the first couple weeks of the season due to a back strain, felt something in his back while warming up earlier this week for a bullpen session, which led to his start being pushed back from Friday to later this weekend. There should be some clarity on his status at some point prior to Sunday’s showdown. Rotoworld Today, 6:57 am

    • Notches second save
Cano gave up a hit and struck out one in a scoreless ninth inning Friday to record his second save of the season in a 4-2 win over the Diamondbacks.

Advice: Craig Kimbrel worked the seventh inning and faced the bottom of the Arizona order, a strong sign that at least for the moment, manager Brandon Hyde is focused on building the veteran closer's confidence back up rather than throwing him into the fire in the ninth. Due to Kimbrel's recent struggles, Cano has picked up both his 2024 saves in his last three appearances, but Jacob Webb and Danny Coulombe have also collected saves in the last couple weeks, although the former's came in the 12th inning. Even if the O's turn to a committee to protect leads at the end of games, Cano figures to see the majority of save chances until Kimbrel proves he's ready to resume his usual role. • Lance Lynn surrenders five runs to Brewers
Lance Lynn gave up five runs — four earned — in 4 2/3 innings Friday in a loss to the Brewers.

Advice: It’s rather remarkable than Lynn has a 3.79 ERA with significantly worse-than-usual strikeout and walk numbers, but it’s a product of him having given up only five homers, compared to 12 barrels. Last year, he allowed 44 homers and 56 barrels. In 2022, when he missed one-third of the season, he allowed 19 homers and 24 barrels. Things figure to pick up in the home run department as the season goes along, which doesn’t bode well at all for Lynn remaining an effective pitcher. Rotoworld Yesterday, 9:38 pm

    • Yields five runs in loss
Lynn (1-1) took the loss Friday, allowing five runs (four earned) on five hits and two walks over 4.2 innings against Milwaukee. He had five strikeouts.

Advice: Lynn cruised through the Brewers order once, but the wheels had come off by the fifth inning. The 36-year-old got the hook after 85 pitches (51 strikes), leaving two on with two outs. Matthew Liberatore provided no help as he then allowed both inherited runners to score. Lynn has struggled over his past four starts, posting a 5.49 ERA, 1.63 WHIP and 19:11 K:BB over 19.2 innings. He'll look to bounce back in his next start, which is scheduled to come on the road against the Angels. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 8:56 pm
