• Settles for no-decision Monday
King allowed one run on three hits and one walk while striking out seven batters over five innings in a no-decision against Miami on Monday.

Advice: King pitched very well in the outing, but San Diego wasn't able to put its second run on the board until the seventh frame, preventing him from picking up a second consecutive victory. The only run the right-hander allowed came on a third-inning homer by Jazz Chisholm. King has given up one or zero runs in three of his past five starts and has racked up a 34:8 K:BB across 30 innings over that span. He's tentatively slated to make his next start in Kansas City. • King strikes out seven in no-decision Monday
Michael King allowed one run in five innings and got a no-decision in the Padres’ 2-1 victory over the Marlins on Monday.

Advice: King allowed three hits, one walk and struck out seven. He left the game with the score tied after five innings. King’s ERA is now 4.09 on the season. His 74 strikeouts this year rank among the top 10 in all of baseball. The 29-year-old right-hander is set to face the Royals on the road this weekend.

  • Blows another save Saturday
Diaz gave up a run on two hits and struck out one in the ninth inning Saturday, blowing his fourth save of the season in a 7-2 extra-inning loss to the Giants.

Advice: After the right-hander tossed a scoreless inning and recorded a hold Friday, Mets manager Carlos Mendoza gave Diaz another shot at closing with the team clinging to a 2-1 lead. He couldn't get the job done, giving up two singles with a stolen base in between to tie the game before Sean Reid-Foley and Josh Walker combined for a disastrous 10th inning. Diaz has blown three straight save chances and four of five since May 5, stumbling to an 11.05 ERA in 7.1 innings over that stretch despite an 11:3 K:BB. Diaz last had struggles like this in 2019 and was eventually able to find his form again, but the Mets will be hard-pressed to use him in high-leverage spots until he shows some consistency. • Records 11th save
Bednar allowed two hits but hung on for a scoreless inning and a save in Saturday's 4-1 win over Atlanta.

Advice: Tasked with protecting a three-run lead, Bednar retired the first two batters of the ninth inning before back-to-back hits put the tying run in Ronald Acuna at the plate. The closer then got Acuna to ground into a fielder's choice to thwart the threat. After blowing three save chances in seven tries to start the season, Bednar has successfully converted each of his last seven opportunities. Rotowire.com Saturday, 6:12 pm

  • Lasts just 4.2 innings
Lopez (2-2) took the loss Saturday in Pittsburgh, allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits and one walk over just 4.2 innings. He struck out three.

Advice: Saturday marked the right-hander's shortest outing of the season and also his fewest number of pitches thrown (70) in a start this year. Lopez labored a bit in the third and fourth frames, and Atlanta manager Brian Snitker elected to pull his starter after he yielded a two-out single in the fifth. The righty hasn't won a game since April 16 even as he still holds a 2.43 ERA since that date. Rotowire.com Saturday, 5:57 pm

  • David Bednar works around jam to get save vs. ATL
David Bednar worked around two hits to get a save with a scoreless inning against Atlanta on Saturday.

Advice: Bednar put the tying run at the plate in the form of Ronald Acuña Jr., but he was able to get Acuña Jr. to hit into a fielder’s choice. The 29-year-old has had his share of struggles in 2024, but he was able to lower his ERA to 6.75 while picking up his 11th save. Rotoworld Saturday, 4:42 pm

  • Reynaldo López gives up three over 4 2/3 vs. Pirates
Reynaldo López went 4 2/3 innings and gave up three runs — two earned — in a start Saturday against the Pirates.

Advice: Lopez gave up five hits with one walk while striking out three. The right-hander allowed an RBI single in the third, and two more runs scored on a Nick Gonzales double. Even with a shaky outing, the 30-year-old still has a sensational 1.75 ERA on the season. He’s scheduled to fact the Nationals at home Thursday. Rotoworld Saturday, 4:42 pm

  • Edwin Díaz charged with fourth blown save Saturday
Edwin Díaz allowed one run with one strikeout in the ninth inning to blow the save chance against the Giants on Saturday.

Advice: After Díaz had struck out two batters in a scoreless inning on Friday, he got the save chance on Saturday against the Giants. Asked to close it out with a one-run lead, he surrendered two hits to tie the game, blowing the save chance. The 30-year-old right-hander is having a rough season after missing the 2023 campaign, posting a 5.40 ERA and 1.25 WHIP over 20 frames. Given his track record and overall struggles in the Mets bullpen, he should continue to get a chance to work through his issues in the late innings. Rotoworld Saturday, 1:56 pm

  • Edwin Díaz (sort of) gets vote of confidence
Mets manager Carlos Mendoza told reporters Saturday that Edwin Díaz is “one of the options” (to close) moving forward.

Advice: He’s our closer,” Mendoza added. “Even if he’s going through it right now.” He also elaborated that they’ll “piece it together” moving forward in the ninth inning. It’s a bit of a confusing message and isn’t exactly the vote of confidence fantasy managers are hoping to hear. It certainly sounds like Díaz will get some save opportunities in the near future, but Reed Garrett, Adam Ottavino and Jorge López might also still be in the mix. What a mess.
