    • Edmundo Sosa powers Phillies past Cardinals
Edmundo Sosa clobbered a two-run homer on Friday night, powering the Phillies to a 4-2 victory over the visiting Cardinals.

Advice: The 28-year-old shortstop capped off a three-run rally in the second inning with his mammoth 439-foot (110.0 mph EV) two-run blast on the first pitch that he saw from Miles Mikolas. That would be his only hit in three at-bats on the night. Sosa has been swinging a very hot stick for the Phillies — slashing .307/.378/.591 with four long balls and 15 RBI in his first 99 plate appearances. Rotoworld Today, 5:58 pm

    • Tommy Edman (wrist) takes BP left-handed Friday
Tommy Edman (wrist) was able to take batting practice from the left side of the plate for the first time on Friday.

Advice: Edman is already eligible to be activated from the 60-day injured list, but he’s still not close to being ready. The fact that he’s now able to face live pitching from both sides of the plate though is an encouraging sign and perhaps a minor league rehab assignment could be in the cards soon. He’s going to need plenty of at-bats there before he’s ready to join the Cardinals though and there’s no guarantee that he’ll even be ready before the end of June. Rotoworld Today, 1:44 pm

    • Taking BP from left side
Edman (wrist) has been cleared to take batting practice from the left side of the plate, John Denton of MLB.com reports.

Advice: It's the first time the switch-hitter has taken BP from the left side since he experienced complications in his recovery from right wrist surgery. While the step is an important one, Edman does not appear close to beginning a rehab assignment just yet. Rotowire.com Today, 1:34 pm

    • Four hits in twin bill
Gonzales went 4-for-9 with a double, a home run, two runs scored and two RBI across both games of Wednesday's doubleheader split with the Tigers.

Advice: The Pirates were blanked in the opener and managed only three hits in total off Tarik Skubal and the Detroit bullpen, but Gonzales had one of them. The 25-year-old second baseman really came to life in the second contest, as he launched a solo shot off Keider Montero in the fourth inning and was a key part of a 10-2 rout by Pittsburgh. Gonzales has hit safely in 13 of the last 15 games as he solidifies his spot in the Bucs' lineup, batting .328 (19-for-58) over that stretch with three homers, a steal, nine runs and 14 RBI. • Sitting out Wednesday
Anderson is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's contest in San Diego.

Advice: Anderson is just 5-for-24 in seven games since returning from the injured list, dragging his season line down to an unsightly .199/.235/.219. Vidal Brujan is at shortstop Wednesday and it wouldn't be a surprise if he begins to see more action at the position if Anderson's struggles continue. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 10:40 am

    • Tim Anderson goes 0-for-3 in loss to Padres
Tim Anderson went 0-for-3 in the loss to the Padres on Tuesday.

Advice: Anderson probably cost the Marlins the game on defense Monday, and he’s on the short list of the game’s worst hitters at .199/.235/.219 this season. A batting champ in 2019 and an All-Star in both 2021 and ’22, it’s hard to understand why he looks so finished now at age 30. Still, he’s turned into such a liability that he should not be in the major leagues at this point. Rotoworld Tuesday, 9:13 pm

    • Drives in four
Gonzales went 2-for-3 with a walk, a double, four RBI and a run scored Friday against Atlanta.

Advice: Gonzales has swung the bat well since being recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis, and he is currently in the midst of a five-game hitting streak. In that span, he's gone 8-for-20 with seven RBI and three runs scored. He's been locked into the fifth spot in the order and should be the Pirates' everyday second baseman for the foreseeable future. • Nick Gonzales with four RBI in win
Nick Gonzales went 2-for-3 with a double, walk, four RBI, and run scored in a win against the Braves on Friday.

Advice: Gonzales has been an RBI machine with 13 in 13 starts since being called up on May 10th along with five extra-base hits. His batted ball metrics match the power output thus far despite his lack of plate discipline. The Pirates offense has looked much better with him in the lineup and he should remain a fixture for them at second base while he hits like this. Rotoworld Friday, 6:41 pm

    • Edmundo Sosa has three hits in win over Rangers
Edmundo Sosa went 3-for-4 in a win Thursday over the Rangers.

Advice: Sosa hasn’t gotten much attention in 2024, but it’s probably time for that to change. The three-hit afternoon pushes the 28-year-old’s average up to .323, and he’s slugging .548 to show he’s not just dinking-and-dunking the baseball. It’s only a sample of 58 at-bats, but he’s likely earned more playing time based on what he’s done so far in 2024. Rotoworld Thursday, 1:20 pm
