    • Yoshida (thumb) could start rehab assignment soon
      Masataka Yoshida (thumb) is expected to begin a minor league rehab assignment near the end of this week.

      Advice: Red Sox’ manager Alex Cora told reporters on Sunday that Yoshida has seen considerable improvement and will “hopefully” be ready to begin a minor league rehab assignment before the end of the week. The 30-year-old has been sidelined since the beginning of May due to a strained left thumb.       Red Sox manager Alex Cora said Sunday that he's hopeful Yoshida (thumb) could begin a minor-league rehab assignment later this week, Christopher Smith of The Springfield Republican reports.

      Advice: Cora's comments came one day after Yoshida took live batting practice on the field and reported no issues with his strained left thumb, which has kept him out of action since April 28. Though the skipper didn't offer up a firm timeline for when Yoshida might be activated from the 10-day injured list, the 30-year-old may only need a handful of games in the minors this weekend before he's deemed ready to rejoin the Red Sox.       Stott went 1-for-4 with two RBI, two stolen bases and one walk in Sunday's 5-4 extra-inning loss to the Cardinals.

      Advice: Stott has had trouble getting on base lately -- he's 5-for-44 (.114) with two walks over his last 12 games -- but he's managed to steal four bases in that span. He played a more noticeable role Sunday with a two-run single to tie the game at 4-4 in the fifth inning. Those RBI were his first since May 21.       Advice: Iglesias needed just nine pitches to retire Zack Gelof, Kyle McCann and Max Shuemann in order.       Bryson Stott drove in a pair of runs and swiped two bases as the Phillies fell to the Cardinals in 10 innings on Sunday night.

      Advice: Stott drew a walk off of Lance Lynn in the opening inning and swiped second base, but the Phillies were unable to cash him in. He then tied the game up and chased Lynn with a two-run single in the fifth inning. Stott then deftly nabbed second base again, but the Phillies once again couldn’t score him.     • Tigers will option Spencer Torkelson to Triple-A
      Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports that the Tigers plan to option slumping first baseman Spencer Torkelson to Triple-A Toledo.

      Advice: Torkelson, the top overall selection from the 2020 draft, has slashed a miserable .201/.266/.330 through his first 230 plate appearances with only four homers, 18 RBI and a 56/16 K/BB ratio. He has been especially bad as of late, mired in a 3-for-33 (.091) funk with a 13/3 K/BB ratio over his last nine games.       The Tigers are expected to option Torkelson to Triple-A Toledo on Monday, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.

      Advice: Torkelson was held out of the lineup for two of the Tigers' last three games after struggling to a .201/.266/.330 slash line with four home runs, 18 RBI and 24 runs scored over 229 plate appearances in 54 games this season. The first baseman will look to hit the reset button with Toledo before potentially returning to Detroit's major-league roster down the road.       Ryan McMahon singled and drew a pair of walks as the Rockies were shut out by Gavin Stone and a host of Dodgers’ relievers on Sunday afternoon in Los Angeles.

      Advice: As a team, the Rockies totaled just five hits in the contest, with only one of them (a double by Charlie Blackmon) going for extra bases.     • Limited to light throwing
      Senga (shoulder/triceps) took part in light-to-moderate throwing on the field Saturday, Pat Ragazzo of SI.com reports.

      Advice: Mets manager Carlos Mendoza characterized Senga's throwing as being mechanical in nature, but the activity nonetheless represents a step in the right direction after the Mets shut down the right-hander in late May, when he received a cortisone injection to address inflammation in his triceps. Senga initially opened the season on the injured list with a right posterior shoulder capsule strain before he experienced tightness in his triceps in May. Even though he's resumed his throwing program, Senga is without a clear timeline for a return.
