  • Officially sent to Triple-A
The Tigers optioned Torkelson to Triple-A Toledo on Monday.

Advice: Multiple reports after the Tigers' 8-4 win over the Red Sox on Sunday suggested that Torkelson was en route to Triple-A, but Detroit waited until shortly before Monday's series opener in Texas to make the move official. Torkelson slugged 31 home runs last season, and many anticipated another step forward in 2024, but it simply hasn't come together, with the former top prospect slashing just .201/.266/.330 with four home runs across 229 plate appearances. He'll be back in the majors eventually, but a reset at Toledo was deemed necessary. Mark Canha will draw the start at first base Monday, and Gio Urshela will also be an option at the position while Torkelson is out of the picture. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 2:04 pm
  • Still no timetable for game action
Blue Jays manager John Schneider said Monday that Votto (ankle) continues to take live at-bats and take part in a running progression, but he's still without a timetable for playing in games, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports.

Advice: Votto suffered a severe right ankle sprain during a spring training game in mid-March, when he stepped on a bat in the dugout. While he's been performing baseball activities for several weeks now, it's not clear when he might be assigned to Triple-A Buffalo. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 1:25 pm
  • Absent from lineup
Abreu is out of the lineup for Monday's contest against the Cardinals.

Advice: Abreu has now started five of eight games since rejoining the Astros' active roster, going 3-for-15 with one home run. He'll cede his spot in the lineup Monday to Jon Singleton, who gets the start at first base. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 1:10 pm
  • Phillies place Kody Clemens (back) on 10-day IL
Phillies placed INF Kody Clemens on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to May 31, with low back spasms.

Advice: The 28-year-old infielder was scratched from the Phillies’ lineup on Sunday night due to the back issue and hadn’t appeared in a game since Friday. He’s not expected to require much longer than a minimum stint on the injured list. Weston Wilson was recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley in a corresponding move on Monday to take Clemens’ place on the Phillies’ active roster. Rotoworld Yesterday, 12:33 pm
  • Justin Turner rides the pine once again Monday
Justin Turner is once again riding the pine for Monday’s series opener against the Orioles.

Advice: It appears as though Father Time may have caught up to the 39-year-old slugger, as Turner is slashing a miserable .212/.299/.341 on the season with just four homers and 20 RBI. He was even worse in the month of May — hitting a cringe-inducing .111/.210/.139 with zero homers and five RBI. Daniel Vogelbach will function as the Jays’ designated hitter on Monday and will bat cleanup against Grayson Rodriguez and the O’s. Rotoworld Yesterday, 12:15 pm
  • Heading back to Triple-A
The Rays optioned Aranda to Triple-A Durham on Monday.

Advice: Aranda will head to the minors to open up a spot on the 26-man active roster for outfielder Josh Lowe (oblique), who was reinstated from the 10-day injured list. After opening the season on the IL while recovering from a fractured right ring finger, Aranda was activated May 14. He had settled into the large side of a platoon at designated hitter with Harold Ramirez, but even with limited exposure to lefties, Aranda hit just .213/.288/.319 over 52 plate appearances before Tampa Bay elected to send him to Durham. Ramirez should continue to serve as the Rays' primary option at DH versus right-handed pitching, but manager Kevin Cash could rotate a number of players at the DH spot versus lefties while Aranda is out of the mix. • Nolan Jones (back) starts rehab assignment
Nolan Jones (back, knee) began a minor league rehab assignment at Triple-A Albuquerque on Sunday.

Advice: The dynamic 26-year-old outfielder went 0-for-2 with a walk and was hit by a pitch in the contest. He should only need a few games to get his timing back before becoming an option to rejoin the Rockies’ lineup. Prior to landing on the injured list, Jones had struggled to a .170/.243/.277 slash line through his first 26 games with only one home run, seven RBI and a pair of stolen bases. • Productive weekend series
Diaz went 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI on Sunday against the Orioles.

Advice: Diaz had a strong weekend series thanks to some timely hits. Across the three games, he went just 3-for-11 but drove in four runs and also worked two free passes. Diaz has gone just 7-for-44 across his last 13 starts, though he's striking out at only a 10.6 percent clip in that span, meaning his numbers should start to tick back up. • Snaps out of slump
Tellez went 3-for-4 with a two-RBI double and two RBI singles during Sunday's 5-4 loss to the Blue Jays.

Advice: Tellez hadn't logged an RBI since May 5 and had driven in three batters since April 4. He bested that total just on Sunday, plating all four of the Pirates' runs and reaching safely in four of his five plate appearances. Prior to Sunday's contest, Tellez had generated four hits in 40 at-bats with one walk. Rotowire.com Sunday, 9:11 pm
