Player Notes

  • Josh Lowe hitting third in return to lineup
Josh Lowe is starting in right field and batting third for the Rays against the White Sox on Monday.

Advice: The Rays are wasting no time throwing Lowe right back into the heart of the order and against right-handed Mike Clevinger, that shouldn’t be a huge surprise. However, the Rays are also set to face just one left-handed pitcher in their next 10 games, so it should be a bit of a softer landing spot for Lowe, who has been on the bench at times against lefties in the past. • Cole Tucker gets second straight start for LAA
Cole Tucker is starting at third base for the Angels and hitting eighth against the Pirates on Monday.

Advice: Tucker was called up a week ago and has now started in four games, including the last two at this base. The 27-year-old is 5-for-12 with two doubles, a run, an RBI, and three steals so far. The former Pirates prospect hasn’t been able to sustain any production at the MLB level, but he was showing a more aggressive, pull-centric approach at Triple-A and has been running often in his brief stint with the Angels. He could be worth a dart throw in AL-only and other deep formats to see if he can carve out a full-time job for the banged-up Angels. Rotoworld 54 minutes ago
  • Facing four-week absence
The Guardians expect Kwan to miss approximately four weeks after placing him on the 10-day injured list earlier Monday with an acute left hamstring strain, Zack Meisel of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Kwan was diagnosed with the acute hamstring strain after undergoing an MRI following his early exit from Saturday's 7-1 win over the Angels. With imaging determining that he sustained more than a mild injury, Kwan will be sidelined well beyond the minimum 10 days, and a more precise return date likely won't come into focus until he reaches the point in his rehab where he's performing baseball activities. The Guardians are likely to turn to Estevan Florial, Ramon Laureano and Gabriel Arias to fill in for Kwan in the corner outfield, while prospect Kyle Manzardo was promoted from Triple-A Columbus on Monday and should take on an everyday role at designated hitter for at least the next few weeks. • Connor Joe batting cleanup for Pirates on Monday
Connor Joe is starting for the Pirates on Monday against the Angels and batting cleanup.

Advice: Joe has now started the last three games and five of the last six. He most often plays against lefties but gets the occasional start against righties as well. The 31-year-old is hitting .290/.372/.460 on the season with three home runs, 14 RBI, and two steals. With the Pirates set to face three lefties this week, Joe could see some more at-bats than usual. Rowdy Tellez and Jack Suwinski will take a seat against left-hander Tyler Anderson with Edward Olivares also in the lineup in right field and batting fifth. Rotoworld Today, 11:39 am
  • Sitting against lefty
Suwinski is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Angels.

Advice: The lefty-hitting Suwinski will retreat to the bench with southpaw Tyler Anderson taking the hill for the Angels. With Suwinski on the bench, the Pirates will run out an outfield of Bryan Reynolds, Michael Taylor and Edward Olivares from left to right. Rotowire.com Today, 11:32 am
  • Exits 40-man roster
The Rays designated Goodrum for assignment Monday.

Advice: Goodrum had been sent down to Triple-A Durham a few days ago and is now off the 40-man roster. The utility player has a career .685 OPS over parts of seven big-league seasons. Rotowire.com Today, 11:22 am
  • Remains on bench Monday
Soler (shoulder) is out of the lineup for Monday's game in Philadelphia, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Soler will be on the bench for a second straight game while he tends to a shoulder injury. With Soler out of the lineup, LaMonte Wade will get a day off at first base and will serve as the Giants' designated hitter. Rotowire.com Today, 10:02 am
  • On base three times in loss
Rooker went 2-for-3 with a double, a walk and two runs in a loss to the Marlins on Sunday.

Advice: A day after slugging two home runs in the same inning, Rooker laced the only extra-base hit of the afternoon for the Athletics. Rooker's multi-hit effort was his second straight and third in the last eight games, pushing his slash line over the entirety of that span to a spectacular .407/.500/.852 across 32 plate appearances. • Starting at second base Monday
Merrifield will start at second base and bat eighth in Monday's contest against the Giants, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Merrifield's playing time with the Phillies this season has been sparse, but he could see increased reps at second base over the next several weeks on days Bryson Stott slides over to shortstop to cover for the injured Trea Turner (hamstring). The 35-year-old has been solid in 2024 in his limited chances, putting up a .724 OPS with two home runs and three stolen bases across 53 plate appearances. Rotowire.com Today, 9:21 am
