    • Ohtani won’t play second game of doubleheader
      Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told reporters that Ohtani won’t start the second game of the doubleheader Tuesday against the Mets.

      Advice: Gasser dominated the Cubs, pounding them with a sound five-pitch mix to collect his second career quality start. The 24-year-old rookie has impressed in 23 innings so far, producing a 1.96 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and 13:1 K:BB. Things have been excellent under the hood too, as he owns a 2.52 FIP and 47.3 percent groundball rate. Gasser is tentatively set to make his next scheduled start against the White Sox at home.     • Gasser strikes out seven in no-decision Monday
      Robert Gasser threw six shutout innings and got the no-decision in the Brewers’ 5-1 victory over the Cubs on Monday.



      Advice: Gasser left the game in the seventh inning with two on and nobody. Reliever Bryan Hudson escaped the jam without any runs being charged to Gasser, who allowed only three hits and struck out seven. He lowered his ERA to 1.96 in four starts. Gasser has a SO:BB of 13:1 and 47 percent ground ball percentage. He’s certainly a promising rookie, though he’s probably due to give up some runs eventually as his xFIP is 3.99. The 24-year-old left-hander is set to face the White Sox at home this weekend.

      Irvin (5-2) picked up the win in Monday's 11-3 victory over Boston, scattering four hits and three walks over five innings. He struck out six and did not allow a run.

      Advice: The 30-year-old southpaw was sharp, not allowing an extra-base hit and matching his season best with six strikeouts. The three walks were uncharacteristic for Irvin, who allowed just one free pass over his previous 24.1 innings pitched. After allowing nine earned runs over his first two starts of the season, Irvin has yielded just seven earned runs over his past eight starts, good for a 1.55 ERA in that span.     • Cole Irvin tosses five frames to beat Red Sox
      Cole Irvin spun five shutout innings on Monday in a win over the Red Sox.

      Advice: Irvin was staked to an early lead and was able to cruise to a relatively easy victory, limiting Boston’s lineup to just four hits over five frames of work. He struck out six and also handed out a trio of free passes. The 30-year-old lefty still isn’t missing a ton of bats, but he’s been effective in his last couple outings following a rocky start to the year. He’ll remain in Baltimore’s starting rotation mix with both John Means (forearm) and Dean Kremer (triceps) on the shelf. He’ll bring a strong 2.84 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 36/11 K/BB ratio across 50 2/3 innings (10 appearances, eight starts) into a home outing on Sunday against the strikeout-prone Rays.       Advice: As expected, Irvin will draw back into the rotation as a replacement for John Means (forearm), who was placed on the 15-day injured list Thursday. Though he made his last two appearances in relief, Irvin shouldn't be in line for any major workload restrictions Monday after he covered 3.1 innings out of the bullpen last Wednesday against the Cardinals.       Volpe went 1-for-3 with a walk, a steal and a run scored in Sunday's loss to the Padres.

      Advice: Volpe extended his hitting streak to 19 games with a single in the sixth inning. He would then steal second and come around to score off a Juan Soto double to open up the scoring and force Joe Musgrove out of the game. His hit streak is the longest by a Yankee since Derek Jeter in 2012. Volpe is currently tied for sixth in the American League with 61 hits and tied for fifth with 11 steals.       Helsley allowed a run on three hits in one inning but earned the save in Sunday's 4-3 win over the Cubs. He struck out a batter in the outing.

      Advice: Helsley ran into trouble against the Cubs for the second consecutive night and was still able to escape with a save. He allowed a leadoff home run to Ian Happ and then gave up back-to-back two-out singles before getting Seiya Suzuki to end things with a fly out. That's now seven hits and three runs given up by Helsley over his last two appearances, though both still turned into saves.       Alec Burleson went 2-for-4 with a pair of singles and a run scored as the Cardinals triumphed over the Cubs on Sunday evening.

      Advice: Burleson smacked a one-out single off of Javier Assad in the third inning, then rode home on Paul Goldschmidt’s first two-run homer of the night.
