      Advice: Volpe accounted for New York's first scores with a two-run blast to right field in the third inning. It was his second homer in his past three contests following a 25-game stretch during which he went deep just once. Volpe is still batting just .200 through eight games in May, but he's held onto the leadoff spot, batting first in the order in all of the Yankees' contests so far this month.       Anthony Volpe went 2-for-5 with a two-run homer on Thursday in the Yankees’ loss to the Astros.

      Advice: Volpe connected for a two-run opposite-field shot into the right-field corner off Astros starter Ronel Blanco in the third inning. It was his fifth round-tripper of the season and second time he’s left the yard in his last three contests. The 23-year-old shortstop has made an effort to flatten his swing and employ an all-fields approach this season, but is still hitting for some over-the-fence pop, while also significantly improving his batting average.       Cruz went 2-for-4 with a double, three RBI and a run scored Wednesday against the Angels.

      Advice: Cruz provided the majority of Pittsburgh's offense by delivering a double with the bases loaded in the fifth inning. He's had a productive start to Pittsburgh's homestead, collecting six hits in 18 at-bats while also homering twice and driving in seven.     • Ankle issues not long term
      Pirates director of sports medicine Todd Tomczyk said Wednesday that Cruz's recurring left ankle issues are not believing to be a long-term concern, Andrew Destin of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

      Advice: Cruz played just nine games before a fractured left ankle ended his 2023 season. The ankle has since bothered him off and on during the 2024 season, including most recently during Monday's game versus the Angels. He's been able to mostly play through it, but you have to wonder whether it could be contributing to Cruz's disappointing .244/.293/.382 batting line.     • Volpe homers in win over Astros
      Anthony Volpe went 1-for-5 with a home run and three RBI in a win over the Astros on Tuesday.

      Advice: Volpe hit a two-run homer off Justin Verlander in the fourth inning that traveled 354 feet and left the bat at 99.6 mph. He also had a 104.6 mph lineout and is starting to see the ball a little bit better after a long cold streak. Coming into the day, Volpe was slashing just .163/.247/.238 over his previous 20 games with just one home run and a 29 percent strikeout rate. It’s pretty clear that the torrid start to the season was just a hot streak, but Volpe still makes quality contact and has been operating as the Yankees’ leadoff hitter, which will continue to boost his fantasy value.       Advice: The left-handed hitting Cruz was in the lineup each of the previous two times the Pirates faced a southpaw, but he will begin Tuesday's game on the bench as the Angels send lefty Patrick Sandoval to the hill.       Cruz went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run during Sunday's 5-3 win over the Rockies.

      Advice: Cruz' go-ahead no-doubter to right-center in the sixth put the Pirates up for good. Cruz, who also doubled, collected his first multi-hit game in 12 games and only his third since April 6.       Oneil Cruz homered, doubled and walked Sunday in leading the Pirates to a 5-3 win over the Rockies.

      Advice: The double would have been a homer in 24 parks, according to Statcast. Cruz left nothing to chance on the actual homer an at-bat later, sending it 429 feet to right-center.       Cruz went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Friday's 3-2 loss to the Rockies.

      Advice: The 25-year-old shortstop had gone 17 straight games without a homer coming into Friday and nearly made it 18. but he got hold of a Jalen Beeks changeup in the ninth inning to make things close for the Pirates. It was Cruz's fourth long ball of the season and his first off a southpaw, and the RBI were his first since April 22.
