      Yates gave up a run on two hits and a walk while striking out one in the ninth inning during the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader against the A's, recording his seventh save of the season in a 12-11 win.

      Advice: It didn't seem like the Rangers would need their closer when they took a 12-7 lead into the final frame, but after Owen White gave up three straight singles to load the bases without getting an out, Yates was pressed into duty. The right-hander wound up allowing all three inherited runners to score, plus one of his own, before finally escaping the jam.     • Steps in to close out game
      McArthur picked up the save Wednesday against the Brewers after a perfect two-thirds of an inning.

      Advice: The ball was handed to Tyler Duffey for the ninth, but after Duffey walked two batters and gave up a double to Brice Turang, McArthur was forced to step in and close the door. The save snapped McArthur out of a two-game slump in which he allowed five runs (four earned) and was charged with two blown saves and two losses.     • Kirby Yates holds on for seventh save against A’s
      Kirby Yates allowed one run with one strikeout in the ninth inning to record a save against the Athletics on Wednesday.

      Advice: Up by five runs in the ninth, Owen White started the inning for the Rangers, but loaded the bases with no outs. Yates came on to clean it up, but gave up a sacrifice fly and a pair of hits to bring Oakland to within one run. He held on to escape the jam and end the game with his seventh save.       James McArthur converted a two-out save on Wednesday against the Brewers.

      Advice: McArthur was summoned to record the final two outs in the ninth inning after Tyler Duffey gave up an RBI double to Brice Turang that put the potential tying runs in scoring position with only one out in the frame. He got William Contreras and Christian Yelich to both ground out harmlessly to put out the fire and preserve Kansas City’s victory.     • Goes on IL with rotator cuff strain
      The Rangers placed Dunning (shoulder) on the 15-day injured list with a right rotator cuff strain.

      Advice: The roster move is retroactive to Sunday, one day after Dunning made his seventh start of the season while taking a no-decision against the Royals. The Rangers haven't indicated that Dunning sustained the injury at any point during that outing, but the right-hander's shoulder was evidently bothersome coming out of that start. Dunning is without a precise target date to return from the IL, though manager Bruce Bochy said Wednesday that the 29-year-old isn't expected to have an especially lengthy stay on the shelf. While Dunning joins Nathan Eovaldi (groin), Max Scherzer (back), Cody Bradford (ribs), Jacob deGrom (elbow) and Tyler Mahle (elbow) on the shelf, the Rangers should have back-end rotation spots available for both Jose Urena and Jack Leiter.       According to Rangers manager Bruce Bochy, Dane Dunning is headed to the injured list with a shoulder issue.

      Advice: It's not clear at this point how or when Dunning was hurt, nor have the Rangers offered up a timetable for his return.       McArthur (1-2) took the loss and blew the save Tuesday against Milwaukee, allowing three runs on three hits and a walk over one inning. He didn't log a strikeout.

      Advice: For a second straight appearance, McArthur took the mound in the ninth with the Royals leading and surrendered a game-altering home run. This time, Willy Adames put the Brewers up 6-5 with a three-run shot that plated William Contreras and Gary Sanchez with two outs. Despite blowing back-to-back saves, fantasy managers shouldn't panic about McArthur, considering he hadn't allowed a run in nine consecutive appearances prior to the stretch.       James McArthur took his second straight blown save after giving up a three-run homer to Willy Adames against the Brewers on Tuesday.

      Advice: This was worse than Sunday, when he gave up one run in the ninth. McArthur still has a nice 18/3 K/BB ratio in 16 1/3 innings and the homer was only the second he’s given up, so he should be safe for now. That said, it’d be bad if he blew another one right away. John Schreiber is surely next in line for save chances in Kansas City right now. It still doesn’t look like John McMillon, who has been terribly wild in Triple-A, will be a factor anytime soon.
