• Kenta Maeda struggles in loss to Red Sox on Friday
Kenta Maeda struggled in Friday night’s loss to the Red Sox, giving up five runs on eight hits over his 4 2/3 innings.

Advice: On the plus side, Maeda was able to punch out six batters on the night while allowing just two walks. He was able to keep the Red Sox off the board through the first three innings, but they broke through for four runs in the fourth inning — including a three-run blast off the bat of Ceddanne Rafaela. Maeda got 11 swings and misses on 85 pitches on the evening, registering a CSW of 28 percent. He’ll look to improve upon a troublesome 6.25 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and a 30/12 K/BB ratio (40 1/3 innings) when he toes the slab against the Rangers in Arlington on Wednesday. Rotoworld Yesterday, 6:42 pm
  • Status still being evaluated
The Padres are still evaluating Darvish's left hamstring injury and have not ruled out him making his next scheduled start Tuesday versus the Angels, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Advice: Darvish had to be lifted from Wednesday's outing against the Marlins after his hamstring tightened up on him. While it's a good sign he hasn't been placed on the 10-day injured list yet, no final determination has been made regarding his status for his next turn or a possible IL stint. More clarity on Darvish's situation should be available in the coming days. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 1:49 pm
  • Yu Darvish (hamstring) could still make next start
Padres’ manager Mike Shildt told reporters on Friday that Yu Darvish (hamsting) is still being evaluated and that there’s a chance he’ll be able to make his next scheduled start on Tuesday.

Advice: The Padres haven’t placed Darvish on the injured list — and may not at all — depending on how he feels over the next couple of days. It sounds like they’ll continue to take things a day at a time with the 37-year-old hurler. Darvish has gone 4-3 with a 3.20 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and a 53/15 K/BB ratio over 56 1/3 innings in 11 starts on the season. Rotoworld Yesterday, 1:48 pm
  • Back with team, activation imminent
Medina (knee) returned to the Athletics following his latest rehab start with Triple-A Las Vegas on Tuesday and could be activated during this weekend's series with Atlanta, MLB.com reports.

Advice: The right-hander has plunked four batters and pitched to plenty of contact on his rehab assignment, allowing 14 hits over eight innings, but Medina topped out at 100.2 mph and averaged 97 mph with his fastball in his Tuesday start. He then proceeded to throw a bullpen session prior to Thursday's extra-innings loss to the Rays, setting him up for activation at some point this weekend. Whether Medina will immediately slot into an injury-riddled Athletics rotation remains to be seen. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 8:03 am

  • Getting another start Friday
Myers is scheduled to start Friday's game against the White Sox at American Family Field.

Advice: Myers moved from the bullpen into the rotation this past weekend in Boston and struck out four while allowing one run over 4.1 innings in his start Sunday. The performance was good enough to earn Myers a second straight turn through the rotation for what will be his sixth start overall with Milwaukee this season. Over his 22.1 total innings for the Brewers, Myers has pitched to a 4.43 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 23:9 K:BB. Rotowire.com Thursday, 8:44 am

  • Brady Singer scratched on Thursday with illness
Royals scratched Brady Singer from Thursday’s start due to illness.

Advice: It doesn’t seem like anything concerning for Singer long term, but he will miss today’s start against the Twins and may not pitch again until his next turn in the rotation. Daniel Lynch IV was called up from Triple-A Omaha to start in Singer’s place. Rotoworld Thursday, 7:51 am
  • Scratched from start due to illness
Singer has been scratched from Thursday's scheduled start against the Twins due to illness.

Advice: Daniel Lynch was recalled from Triple-A Omaha and will start Thursday in Singer's place. It's possible Singer will be ready to make a start in the coming days, though it will depend on how he bounces back from the illness. Consider him day-to-day for the time being. • Resumes throwing
Springs (elbow/lat) threw long toss from 90 feet Thursday, Kristie Ackert of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Advice: Springs was removed from his second rehab start in the rookie-level Florida Complex League this past Saturday due to lat soreness, but it's a good sign that he was able to resume throwing five days later. According to Ackert, Springs made about 45 throws Thursday with no apparent issues. It's not clear when the left-hander will be ready to resume a rehab assignment. Springs is working his way back from Tommy John surgery, which he underwent last April. Rotowire.com Thursday, 7:46 am
  • Jeffrey Springs long tosses on Thursday
Jeffrey Springs (lat) was able to long toss on Thursday, five days after being removed from his rehab start with shoulder tightness.

Advice: Springs made 45 throws from up to 90 feet on Thursday, which is a good sign so closely removed from leaving his start rehab start with an injury. The left-hander should continue to build back up towards getting back on the mound, but the Rays will not rush him. Given that Springs is recovering from Tommy John surgery and has a history as a reliever, it wouldn’t be a surprise for the Rays to bring him back in a multi-inning role or as a “follower” behind an opener. The uncertainty makes him a tough player to stash in shallower formats. Rotoworld Thursday, 7:26 am
