    • Quality start in loss
Mikolas (2-4) took the loss Wednesday against the Tigers, allowing three runs on six hits over six innings. He struck out four.

Advice: Most of the damage against Mikolas came early -- Colt Keith opened the scoring with an RBI double in the second inning before Matt Vierling extended Detroit's lead to 3-0 with a two-run homer in the third. The 35-year-old Mikolas held the Tigers off the board in his final three frames to earn a quality start, but the Cardinals couldn't climb out of the early hole, sticking the right-hander with the loss. Mikolas has been better after a rough start to the year, allowing five runs over 11.2 innings in his last two starts. His ERA now sits at 5.68 with a 1.39 WHIP and 29:7 K:BB across seven starts (38 innings). Mikolas is slated for a home matchup with the Mets in his next outing. Rotowire.com 7 minutes ago

    • Sharp against Cards
Maeda (1-1) earned the win Wednesday against St. Louis, allowing one run on four hits over six innings. He struck out five.

Advice: A Willson Contreras solo home run in the fourth inning was the lone mark against Maeda on Tuesday as the veteran right-hander cruised to his first win with the Tigers. After a brutal start to the year, Maeda's now allowed just one run on seven hits and no walks in his last two outings (11 innings). He's lowered his ERA to 5.02 with a 1.22 WHIP and 22:7 K:BB across six starts this season. Maeda will look to keep his momentum going in his next outing, currently lined up for early next week in Cleveland. Rotowire.com 15 minutes ago

    • Filling in for Trout in CF
Moniak will start in center field and bat eighth in Wednesday's game against the Phillies, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.

Advice: Moniak will get a second straight start in center field after going 1-for-4 with an RBI in Tuesday's 7-5 loss. Despite entering Wednesday's contest with a .150/.203/.217 slash line through 64 plate appearances on the season, Moniak could have a fairly long leash in center field while Mike Trout (knee) is likely headed for an extended absence as he recovers from meniscus surgery. • Dealing with knee injury
Buxton's removal from Wednesday's game against the White Sox was due to right knee soreness, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Buxton tweaked his knee on a stolen base attempt in the second inning of Wednesday's contest. It's the same knee that he's had surgery on twice, with the most recent operation occurring last October. It's not clear at this point how big of a setback this could be, but the Twins could offer more detail on Buxton's condition after the game. Rotowire.com 20 minutes ago

    • Gets Wednesday off
O'Hoppe is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Phillies, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.

Advice: O'Hoppe will get the afternoon off after he had started behind the plate each of the past three games. Matt Thaiss will handle catching duties for the Angels in the series finale. Rotowire.com 23 minutes ago

    • Byron Buxton dealing with right knee soreness
Twins announced Byron Buxton is dealing with right knee soreness after he exited Wednesday’s game.

Advice: Phew. It appears Buxton avoided any significant injury after he attempted to steal second base and came off the field in pain. Buxton can be considered day-to-day for the time being. Rotoworld 25 minutes ago

    • Removed from 40-man roster
The Angels designated Kristofak for assignment Wendesday.

Advice: The team needed to clear a spot on its 40-man roster for designated hitter/outfielder Willie Calhoun, whose contract was selected from Triple-A Salt Lake on Wednesday. Kristofak, 26, made one appearance during his brief stint with the Angels, allowing two unearned runs over two innings Sunday against the Twins. Rotowire.com 28 minutes ago

    • Placed on IL with knee injury
The Angels placed Sano on the 10-day injured list Wednesday with left knee inflammation.

Advice: Sano has missed most of the last week with the injury, and the Angels finally decided to deactivate him. He will be eligible to return from the IL next week, but it's not clear yet whether he's expected to make it back by that time. Willie Calhoun was called up from Triple-A Salt Lake in a corresponding movfe and could see some starts at designated hitter, although the Halos might filter through multiple players in the spot. • Moves to bench Wednesday
Brujan is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rockies, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

Advice: With Tim Anderson (thumb) returning to action following a one-game absence, Brujan will head to the bench after filling in as Miami's starting shortstop in Tuesday's 7-6 extra-inning win. Before Tuesday, Brujan had started three of the Marlins' previous four games at third base, and he'll continue to vie with Emmanuel Rivera for playing time at that position until Jake Burger (oblique) returns from the 10-day injured list.
