    • Availability still in question
Orioles manager Brandon Hyde said he's not sure whether Kimbrel (back) will be available to pitch Wednesday versus the Yankees, Danielle Allentuck of TheBaltimoreBanner.com reports.

Advice: Hyde said something similar prior to Tuesday's game and Kimbrel did not appear in that contest. It's possible the skipper is just practicing some gamesmanship here so that the Yankees have less information to work with, but either way it doesn't sound like there will be clarification prior to Wednesday's game. If Kimbrel is indeed unavailable again, Yennier Cano and Danny Coulombe are candidates for saves. Rotowire.com Today, 1:20 pm

    • Spencer Turnbull solid for 5 1/3 innings
Spencer Turnbull yielded two runs — one earned — in 5 1/3 innings Tuesday in a no-decision against the Angels.

Advice: This will likely be Turnbull’s final start for a while, as Taijuan Walker’s return has restored the Phillies’ planned rotation. Still, Turnbull seems like a better bet than Walker going forward, and while it’s unlikely that he’d hold up over the course of 32 starts, he might be a fantasy factor again later this year. For now, he’s probably droppable in shallow mixed leagues. Rotoworld Yesterday, 11:34 pm
    • Another strong start
Turnbull didn't factor into the decision Tuesday, allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits and no walks over 5.1 innings against the Angels. He struck out six.

Advice: The only run charged against Turnbull came in the third inning when Zach Neto tagged him for a solo homer. The 31-year-old hasn't allowed more than four hits in a game this season, and with the Phillies expected to trim their six-man rotation back to five now that Taijuan Walker is healthy, Turnbull has certainly made a case for maintaining a starting role. However, after dealing with severe injuries in 2022 and 2023, the Phillies could look to watch his workload early in hopes of keeping him fresh throughout the long season. If Turnbull sticks in the rotation, he'd likely toe the rubber early next week, either in the series finale against the Giants or the series opener against Toronto. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 10:07 pm
    • Availability uncertain
Orioles manager Brandon Hyde said Kimbrel is receiving treatment for his back, and it's unclear if the closer will be available for Tuesday's game against the Yankees, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.

Advice: The 35-year-old was labeled day-to-day after he exited Sunday's game against the A's with back tightness, and his availability for Tuesday remains up in the air. Yennier Cano is the likely candidate to step in for a save chance should Kimbrel be unavailable, although Danny Coulombe got the save Monday. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 1:20 pm

    • Craig Kimbrel (back) resumes throwing Tuesday
Craig Kimbrel (back) resumed throwing on Tuesday.

Advice: It doesn’t sound like Kimbrel is headed for the injured list, but it’s unclear whether he’ll be available for Tuesday’s showdown against the Yankees. The 35-year-old veteran closer underwent additional treatment on Tuesday and remains day-to-day with back tightness. It would presumably be Yennier Cano taking the ball, if he’s unavailable, if a save situation arises. Rotoworld Yesterday, 1:17 pm

    • Duran returns from IL
Jax will likely shift into a setup role since the Twins reinstated Jhoan Duran (oblique) from the 15-day injured list Tuesday.

Advice: Jax pitched well as the fill-in closer to begin the season with four saves, a 2.25 ERA and 17:4 K:BB across 12 innings, but it appears his time in the role is now up. The right-hander should still see plenty of high-leverage opportunities as a setup man, but his fantasy utility will likely be minimal while Duran is healthy. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 11:21 am

    • Fires six hitless frames
Fried pitched six scoreless and hitless innings against Seattle on Monday, walking two batters and striking out seven in a no-decision.

Advice: Fried was dominant in the outing, racking up 15 swinging strikes and allowing just two baserunners, both of whom reached via walk. However, he didn't get a chance to try to extend his no-hit bid beyond the sixth frame because he needed 100 pitches just to get that deep. Still, he was in line for the victory until A.J. Minter gave up a walk-off homer to Mitch Garver in the ninth frame. Fried began the campaign with two poor starts but has turned things around since, tossing three quality starts among his past four outings. He hasn't given up any runs across 15 frames over his past two starts. Rotowire.com Monday, 10:47 pm

    • Max Fried hurls six no-hit innings against Seattle
Max Fried hurled six no-hit innings with seven strikeouts in a no-decision Monday against the Mariners.

Advice: Fried did walk two, and unfortunately for the southpaw he needed exactly 100 pitches to get through the six frames. Otherwise there’s a good chance this could’ve been a no-no, as the Mariners were absolutely dominated by the 30-year-old. This comes after Fried was able to get a complete-game shutout, to say he’s pitching well lately is quite the understatement. He has lowered his ERA from 7.71 to 4.02 in the process, and will try and lower it again Sunday against the Dodgers in Los Angeles. Rotoworld Monday, 9:14 pm

    • Throwing side session Wednesday
Sewald (oblique) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session Wednesday, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports.

Advice: Sewald's last bullpen session, which was scheduled for Sunday, was put on hold after he experienced soreness following an appearance for Triple-A Reno. However, it's positive news that he's been cleared to toss a side session later in the week. The team will likely determine Sewald's next steps after his upcoming bullpen.
