    • Throws again Tuesday
      Cole (elbow) threw approximately 36 pitches in a bullpen session Tuesday, per MLB.com.

      Advice: Cole continues to incrementally increase his pitch count during his throwing sessions -- his previous bullpen took place Saturday and included 29 pitches. The veteran right-hander sat at around 89 mph with his fastball in that session, so he appears to still have a ways to go to get back up to full speed, but so far his recovery seems to be going smoothly, with manager Aaron Boone characterizing Cole's outlook as "onward and upward."     • Won't start Wednesday
      Bassitt won't start Wednesday's game against the Orioles at Camden Yards, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports.

      Advice: Bassitt was slated to start Tuesday in Baltimore before the game was postponed due to inclement weather. Rather than pushing each member of their rotation back a day in the pitching schedule to accommodate the postponement, the Blue Jays will have Yusei Kikuchi take the hill on normal rest Wednesday. As Blake Murphy of Sportsnet.ca notes, Bassitt has been hit hard by left-handed batters this season, and the lefty Kikuchi may give Toronto a better chance at coming away with a win against a lefty-heavy Baltimore lineup. The Blue Jays haven't announced their rotation plans for this weekend's series with the Rays, but expect Bassitt to start at least one of those games rather than having his turn skipped entirely.       Pivetta came away with a no-decision in Tuesday's 5-4 extra-inning win over the Rays, allowing two runs on four hits over 5.2 innings. He struck out eight without walking a batter.

      Advice: The right-hander generated an impressive 32 called or swinging strikes among his 81 pitches, but both runs off Pivetta came on solo shots by Josh Lowe and Randy Arozarena, with the latter chasing him from the game one out short of his second quality start of the season. Pivetta has served up five homers in two starts since coming off the IL, a worrisome trend, but he'll carry a 3.48 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 22:2 K:BB through 20.2 innings into his next outing, which lines up to come on the road this weekend in St. Louis.     • Nick Pivetta bounces back with solid effort vs TB
      Nick Pivetta allowed two runs on four hits in 5 2/3 innings in a no-decision against the Rays.

      Advice: Pivetta struck out eight on the day while walking none, but he was doomed by two solo home runs. The right-hander got back on track after his rough return from the IL, posting a 29 percent whiff rate and 40 percent CSW. His sweeper was particularly dominant, getting five whiffs on eight swings and posting a 47 percent CSW. Pivetta also threw his curveball 1.3 mph harder than usual and found some success with it, so that’s something to watch for future starts.       Gerrit Cole (elbow) threw a 36-pitch bullpen session on Tuesday.

      Advice: It’s a bit unclear when exactly Cole will progress to facing hitters in a live batting practice session, but he’s made it through four bullpen sessions without any setbacks.       Advice: The game will be made up via a traditional doubleheader on July 29. The Blue Jays haven't officially announced their updated pitching plans, but Bassitt seems likely to start Wednesday's series finale with the rest of the rotation being pushed back.       Advice: Starter Michael Lorenzen pitched well enough to win -- he fired seven shutout innings -- but he got little support from the offense or the bullpen, which ceded seven runs over the final two innings. It started with Leclerc, who has allowed runs in three consecutive appearances (five runs, four hits, three walks, three innings). The team's closer to start the season, Leclerc had shifted back to lower-leverage outings and worked his way back with a stretch of nine scoreless innings prior to this recent three-game downturn.       Advice: The Giants took an early lead with Luis Matos' three-run home run in the second inning, and Heliot Ramos added an RBI single in the sixth, which ended Yamamoto's start. This ended Yamamoto's run of four straight quality starts. The right-hander has four scoreless outings on his ledger, but he's also given up three or more runs four times in nine starts.       Advice: Romano entered a tie game in the ninth, needing just nine pitches to complete the frame, then unofficially saved his own victory after the Blue Jays plated a run in the top of the 10th.
