    • Out of lineup again Friday
Chourio is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Cubs.

Advice: It's the first time this season that he's been held out of the lineup in consecutive games. Since April 16, Chourio is slashing just .140/.196/.233 while striking out at a rate of 38.3 percent. Jake Bauers and Sal Frelick are in the corner outfield spots for Milwaukee on Friday. • Progresses to batting practice
Suzuki (oblique) took on-field batting practice Wednesday, Meghan Montemurro and LaMond Pope of the Chicago Tribune report.

Advice: It's the first time he's taken BP since he suffered a right oblique strain on April 14. Suzuki has estimated that he's 80 percent recovered from the injury and he could be in line to begin a rehab assignment next week if he continues trending in the right direction. A return to the Cubs' active roster by mid-May looks doable for the outfielder. Rotowire.com Today, 6:14 am

    • Cranks first home run
Torres went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in Thursday's 7-2 loss to the Orioles.

Advice: Torres led off the sixth inning with a 418-foot shot to center field off Keegan Akin, cutting the Yankees' deficit to 7-2. While it didn't ultimately impact the final score, the home run was certainly a weight off of Torres' shoulders -- he'd gone 32 games without a long ball to start the campaign, a homerless streak of 53 regular-season games if you go back to Torres' last home run Sept. 7. The 27-year-old second baseman is now slashing a disappointing .218/.295/.274 to open the year with 15 runs scored, seven RBI and three stolen bases. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 4:32 pm

    • Gavin Williams (elbow) resumes throwing program
Gavin Williams (elbow) resumed throwing on Thursday.

Advice: Guardians manager Stephen Vogt added that Williams was re-evaluated earlier and cleared to resume throwing and is on the road back to rejoining Cleveland’s starting rotation. The 24-year-old righty was shut down from throwing last week due to renewed elbow discomfort and has been on the shelf since spring training following a couple setbacks in his rehabilitation process. • Resumes throwing
Williams (elbow) resumed throwing Thursday, Zack Meisel of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Williams was cleared by doctors to restart his throwing program Wednesday, and manager Stephen Vogt said the 24-year-old righty was able to get through his throwing session Thursday without any pain. Williams still has a long way to go in his rehab process, but he is certainly trending in the right direction after suffering a setback during a sim game April 20. • Absent from lineup
Martinez is out of the lineup for Thursday's game versus the Cubs.

Advice: Martinez has been given one day off in each of his first two series since joining the Mets as the club eases him back into action. That plan could continue for a bit longer before he assumes everyday duties at designated hitter. DJ Stewart will serve as the Mets' DH on Thursday. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 7:47 am

    • Three hits in Wednesday's loss
Rodriguez went 3-for-5 with a double and a run scored in Wednesday's 5-2 loss to Atlanta.

Advice: After going 0-for-8 in the first two games of the series, Rodriguez's bat woke up against Chris Sale. The 23-year-old outfielder has only had one sustained hot streak so far in 2024, but he's capable of sparking another one at any time. Through 129 plate appearances, Rodriguez is slashing .270/.310/.328 with one homer, seven steals, 11 RBI and 12 runs. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 6:42 am

    • Notches third straight W
Wheeler (3-3) picked up the win Wednesday against the Angels, allowing one run on five hits and a walk over five innings. He struck out six.

Advice: Although Wheeler wasn't able to extend his streak of one-hit starts, he delivered another excellent outing. His lone blemish came in the second inning when Ehire Adrianza swatted a two-out solo homer. Wheeler has been one of the best arms in baseball lately, having surrendered one run on seven hits with 22 strikeouts in 18.1 innings across his last three starts. He'll look to keep the ball rolling in a tentative matchup with the Blue Jays next Wednesday. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 8:47 pm

    • Cleared to start Saturday
Glasnow (hand) is scheduled to start Saturday's game against Atlanta at Dodger Stadium, Eric Stephen of SBNation.com reports.

Advice: Glasnow experienced hand cramps in his most recent start April 27, but he'll be ready to go on six days' rest in a series featuring two of the National League's top teams. The right-hander has gotten off to an excellent start to his tenure with the Dodgers, going 5-1 with a 2.72 ERA, 0.93 WHIP and 53:12 K:BB across 43 innings through seven outings.
