    • Participating in drills
Suzuki (oblique) is set to do hitting and defensive drills Saturday with Cody Bellinger, Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network reports.

Advice: Suzuki suffered a right oblique strain April 14, and he was placed on the 10-day IL one day later. He was limited to light activity, but has since progressed to on-field batting practice. After his batting session Wednesday, Suzuki noted that he felt he was 80 percent recovered from his oblique strain and could begin a rehab assignment next week if he continues to progress, per Meghan Montemurro and LaMond Pope of the Chicago Tribune. • Dazzles in victory
Cease (4-2) earned the win Friday against the Diamondbacks, allowing one run, three hits and no walks over 6.2 innings. He struck out eight.

Advice: Cease continued his brilliant start to the season Friday night, generating 18 whiffs en route to eight strikeouts. The erstwhile White Sox pitcher appears to have re-found his 2022 form, pitching to the tune of a 2.55 ERA, 0.80 WHIP and 48:14 K:BB over 42.1 innings. Cease looks to keep it rolling in his next start, scheduled against the Cubs in Chicago. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 10:10 pm
    • Dylan Cease pitches into seventh to get fourth win
Dylan Cease allowed just a run in 6 2/3 innings against the Diamondbacks on Friday while picking up a win.

Advice: Cease was able to pick up his fourth win of the season with the victory. The right-hander picked up eight strikeouts in the process while not issuing any walks. When the 28-year-old throws strikes, he’s one of the toughest pitchers to have success against, and Friday was a good example of that. He’ll look to repeat his success against the Cubs next week. • Tanner Houck takes third loss versus Twins
Tanner Houck dropped to 3-3 after allowing four runs in six innings Friday against the Twins.

Advice: Houck deserves far better, but the Red Sox have totaled three runs in his three losses to date. His ERA stands at 2.18 after seven turns through the rotation. He’ll get the Nationals next. Rotoworld Yesterday, 8:56 pm
    • Notches third save
Hader issued a walk over one scoreless frame Friday. He struck out two and earned a save over the Mariners.

Advice: Hader needed 22 pitches (13 strikes) to finish off the 5-3 win but still came away with his third save as an Astro. It was his first save since April 19 and he's converted three of his four opportunities so far. He's produced an impressive 23:7 K:BB despite an unsightly 5.93 ERA through 13.2 frames. Hader has punched out seven batters while not allowing an earned run over his last four innings. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 8:44 pm

    • Tagged with four runs
Houck (3-3) allowed four runs on six hits and two walks over six-plus innings Friday, striking out five and taking a loss against Minnesota.

Advice: Houck gave up just one run through six frames before stumbling in the seventh. He allowed three straight runners to reach base without recording an out and was eventually charged with all three runs. He matched his season high with four runs allowed; in his other five starts this year, Houck has given up just three total runs through 33.2 innings. On top of that, he tied his season low by generating only six swinging strikes. Houck will carry a 2.18 ERA into his next outing, which is lined up to be at home against the Nationals next week. • Josh Hader locks down third save of season
Josh Hader fired a scoreless ninth with two strikeouts to pick up a save Friday against the Mariners.

Advice: Hader did walk a batter to put the tying run at the plate, but the left-hander was able to get a pair of strikeouts to lower his ERA to 5.93 and also pick up his third save. Hader should continue to see those save numbers rise while his ERA plummets over the summer months. Rotoworld Yesterday, 8:05 pm

    • Increasing baseball activiteis
Edman (wrist) is slated to take full swings off a tee Saturday, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Edman recently progressed to hitting from both sides of the dish after being limited to the right side due to his surgically repaired right wrist. He was also seen tracking fly balls during batting practice Friday, per John Denton of MLB.com. Edman still appears far away from a rehab assignment, but the 29-year-old is steadily progressing. • Cardinals taking things slow with Tommy Edman
Cardinals’ manager Oli Marmol said Friday that the team continues to proceed cautiously with Tommy Edman (wrist).

Advice: The 28-year-old has been hitting off of a tee from both sides of the plate, but Marmol noted that his progression will continue to be slower than most injured players’ by design. He also said that a minor league rehab assignment is not imminent. Expect the Cardinals to continue to build him up slowly with no clear timetable on when he could be ready to make his 2024 season debut. Rotoworld Yesterday, 2:52 pm
