The first baseman extended his hitting streak to nine contests, a stretch during which he is batting .361 (13-for-26) with two home runs and five RBI.       Jared Jones allowed six runs over his 4 2/3 innings while picking up a loss to the Rockies on Saturday.

      Advice: Jones was not great, and the Pittsburgh bullpen allowed 10 more runs to score in a 16-4 blowout loss to the Rockies. The right-hander gave up six hits, and he also walked four on a night where the command just wasn’t there for the 22-year-old. He still was able to strike out six, and his rookie campaign has certainly been a success even with a couple of so-so outings as of late.       Flaherty (4-4) earned the win Saturday over the Astros, allowing three hits and a walk while striking out six over five scoreless innings.

      Advice: Flaherty was skipped once through the rotation while he dealt with a back injury, which he received an injection for Monday. He was good in his return, though he was limited to 73 pitches (46 strikes), as the Tigers likely didn't want to risk pushing him too hard after they built up a 10-0 lead. Flaherty is at a 3.01 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and 100:11 K:BB through 77.2 innings over 13 starts this season.       Advice: Flaherty received an anti-inflammatory injection on Monday and had a few extra days of rest to combat a back injury, but he looked good overall on Saturday. His four-seam velocity was down 1.5 mph, so that’s something to keep an eye on, but he induced eight whiffs on 31 swings for a 26 percent whiff rate and 32 percent CSW.       Advice: Rooker's seventh-inning three-bagger plated JJ Bleday to snap a 4-4 tie, giving the Athletics a temporary reprieve after they'd blown an early 4-0 lead. The triple was Rooker's second of the season -- a new career high -- and marked his first extra-base hit since June 4. The veteran outfielder has now hit safely in five of his last seven games, but he's also carrying a .172 average and 43.3 percent strikeout rate across the 30 plate appearances he's logged in that span.       Allen (7-3) picked up the win Friday, allowing one run on three hits and three walks over five-plus innings in a 3-1 victory over the Blue Jays. He struck out three.

      Advice: The lefty wasn't exactly efficient, tossing 47 of 84 pitches for strikes, but he blanked Toronto for five frames before back-to-back hits to lead off the sixth brought home Toronto's only run and chased Allen from the game. The 25-year-old has given up three runs or fewer in five of his last six outings, posting a 3.86 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 24:12 K:BB in 30.1 innings over that stretch.       Advice: As expected, Flaherty will take the ball this weekend against Houston’s high-powered offense after receiving a couple extra days of rest to address a back issue that cropped up during his previous start on June 4 against the Rangers.       Ragans allowed three runs on six hits and a walk while striking out four over seven innings in a no-decision versus the Dodgers on Friday.

      Advice: Ragans had just one bad inning -- he gave up a two-run home run to Miguel Rojas and a solo shot to Chris Taylor in the fifth. Aside from that, it was smooth sailing for the southpaw, who earned his fifth quality start in his last six outings, though he has just two wins in that span. The Royals' ace is now at a 3.14 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 102:26 K:BB over 86 innings across 15 starts this season. He's given up more than three runs just twice, with both of those games being seven-run mishaps, so he's often been even more dominant than his surface stats would suggest. Even with the roundtrippers it’s another quality outing from the 26-year-old, albeit one that doesn’t come with many strikeouts nor a win.
