    • Another quality start Sunday
      Flaherty (0-3) was tagged with a loss Sunday after he pitched 6.2 innings, surrendering three runs on seven hits while striking out seven batters in a 9-3 defeat to Houston.

      Advice: Flaherty opened Sunday's contest by firing five scoreless innings before Kyle Tucker launched a two-run home run in the top of the sixth inning. The Astros scratched across another run on him in the seventh frame before the right-hander's day came to an end with two outs in the inning. The performance marked his third straight quality start and sixth of the season over eight outings. Flaherty now owns a 3.88 ERA and 1.05 WHIP with 63 strikeouts over 48.2 innings in eight starts in 2024 and will look to earn his first win of the year in his next projected start Saturday on the road in Arizona.       Jack Flaherty yielded three runs in 6 2/3 innings Sunday in a loss to the Astros.

      Advice: Still no breaks at all for Flaherty, who is 0-3 in spite of a 3.88 ERA. He really should have given up just two runs today, but Joey Wentz allowed an inherited runner to score from first after coming on with two outs against the bottom of the Astros lineup in the seventh.     • Luis Gil twirls six shutout in win over Rays
      Luis Gil threw six shutout innings in a win over the Rays on Sunday, allowing three hits while striking out three.

      Advice: Gil also walked two on the day and showed solid enough command, pounding the zone with his four-seam fastball over 60 percent of the time. The changeup was the only pitch that wasn’t consistently landing in the zone, but he got plenty of swings and misses with a 29 percent whiff rate on it. It wasn’t a dominant effort with a 23 percent CSW, but he didn’t allow much hard contact.     • Matt Manning confirmed for start Monday for Tigers
      Matt Manning will start for the Tigers on Monday against the Marlins.

      Advice: Manning is going to get the start to take the place of Kenta Maeda after Maeda was placed on the 15-day injured list with a viral illness. Manning will get to face one of the weaker lineups in baseball, and he’s worth consideration as a streamer for that start.     • Surrenders seven runs in loss
      Ragans (2-3) took the loss against the Angels on Saturday, allowing seven runs on eight hits and one walk over 6.1 innings. He struck out three.

      Advice: Ragans first ran into trouble in the top of the second after surrendering a leadoff triple to Kevin Pillar to open the frame, which would eventually lead to three runs coming home for Los Angeles. The lefty would also surrender runs in the third and seventh innings, with the final two of those runs coming across after he was relieved by Nick Anderson. Ragans had given up two runs or fewer in each of his last three starts coming in, but ended up matching his season high with seven runs allowed in Saturday's loss.     • Cole Ragans lit up for seven runs in loss to Halos
      Cole Ragans was torched for seven runs over 6 1/3 innings on Saturday in a loss to the Angels.

      Advice: The final line isn’t pretty, but it looks worse than it probably should as Ragans was charged with two additional runs following his exit from the contest when Nick Anderson allowed both inherited runners to cross the plate. A three-run homer by Jo Adell in the second inning was responsible for most of the damage against him in this one. The 26-year-old lefty notched only three strikeouts and issued one walk. He’ll bring a pedestrian 4.22 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 57/16 K/BB ratio across 49 innings (nine starts) into a favorable home matchup on Friday against the Athletics. Rotoworld Sunday, 4:23 am
       
    • Kyle Gibson notches seven strikeouts in no-decision
      Kyle Gibson struck out seven and allowed two runs over five innings on Saturday in a no-decision against the Brewers.

      Advice: Gibson continues to exceed expectations in his Cardinals debut, allowing two earned runs or fewer for the sixth time in eight starts at the outset of the year. The 36-year-old veteran righty will bring a respectable 3.67 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 40/20 K/BB ratio across 49 innings (eight starts) into a favorable home matchup on Friday against the Red Sox.       Gibson allowed two runs on three hits and four walks while striking out seven over five-plus innings in a no-decision versus the Brewers on Saturday.

      Advice: Gibson also hit a batter, which forced in the Brewers' first run of the game. The wildness brought an end to his four-start run of quality starts, as he threw just 55 of 104 pitches for strikes Saturday. Gibson is at a 3.67 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 40:20 K:BB through 49 innings across eight starts this season. He had a 2.6 BB/9 in each of the previous two seasons, but it's now at 3.7 in 2024. While that hasn't led to more damage in the runs column, it's a dangerous trend for a 36-year-old whose best trait is his ability to eat innings.
