    • Zack Wheeler collects win over Angels on Wednesday
Zack Wheeler struck out six and yielded one run over five innings on Wednesday in a win over the Angels.

Advice: Wheeler did what he does best out in Los Angeles, pounding the strike zone and limiting hard contact against an injury-depleted Angels lineup. The 33-year-old fantasy ace threw 67 of 106 pitches for strikes and allowed just five batted balls with an exit velocity in excess of 95 mph. A second-inning solo shot from veteran utility specialist Ehire Adrianza represented the lone tally against him over five frames. He’s allowed just one run over 18 1/3 innings in his last three starts since April 20. He’ll bring a sparkling 1.91 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and 52/12 K/BB ratio across 42 1/3 innings (seven starts) into a home outing on Wednesday against the Blue Jays. Rotoworld Today, 4:06 pm

    • Chris Bassitt gives up three-run homer in ldefeat
Chris Bassitt surrendered three runs in six innings Wednesday in a loss to the Royals.

Advice: Bassitt actually had a no-hitter going until the sixth, when the Royals mustered two singles and two doubles to take a 3-0 lead. The results will likely be there eventually, but the loss today leaves him 2-5 with a 5.45 ERA. Rotoworld Today, 2:49 pm

    • Fans nine in no-decision
Gibson came away with a no-decision in the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Tigers, allowing one run on four hits and two walks over seven innings in a 2-1 win. He struck out nine.

Advice: A Riley Greene solo shot in the fourth inning was the only damage off Gibson, but he left the mound in line for the loss as he got out-dueled by Jack Flaherty. The Cardinals were able to rally in the ninth to take Gibson off the hook, however. He generated 30 called or swinging strikes among his 98 pitches while setting a new season high in strikeouts, and the 36-year-old righty sports a 3.79 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 29:14 K:BB through 38 innings. Gibson lines up to make his next start at home early next week against the Mets. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 7:04 pm
    • Kyle Gibson allows one run Tuesday in no-decision
Kyle Gibson struck out nine and allowed one run over seven innings on Tuesday in a no-decision against the Tigers.

Advice: Gibson drew the starting assignment for the opening contest of Tuesday’s twin bill in the Motor City and held serve with Jack Flaherty in a throwback pitcher’s duel. A fourth inning solo homer by Riley Greene represented the lone tally against him in this one. He’ll bring a serviceable 3.79 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 29/14 K/BB ratio across 38 innings (six starts) into a home outing on Monday against the Mets. Rotoworld Yesterday, 3:11 pm
    • Framber Valdez picks up win in return from IL
Framber Valdez won in his return from the IL on Sunday, allowing two runs over five innings against the Rockies in Mexico City.

Advice: Sharp even without the benefit or a rehab assignment, Valdez struck out six and walked none today. He threw 71 pitches, which is right where Houston wanted him in his first start back from elbow inflammation. He’ll face the Mariners at home next time out. Rotoworld Sunday, 4:26 pm
    • Fans six in win
Valdez allowed two runs on five hits over five innings Sunday, striking out six and earning a win over the Rockies.

Advice: Valdez was activated from the injured list and made his first appearance since April 2. He coughed up a pair of runs in the second inning but otherwise looked solid. He forced 13 swinging strikes and his sinker touched 96 mph. Through three starts this season, Valdez has produced a 2.60 ERA with a 16:6 K:BB across 17.1 frames. He's currently projected for a home start against the Mariners next weekend. Rotowire.com Sunday, 4:08 pm
    • Looks mortal versus Phillies
Cease (3-2) took the loss against Philadelphia on Saturday, allowing five runs on six hits and three walks while striking out five batters over six innings.

Advice: Prior to Saturday, Cease hadn't given up more than two earned runs in any of his five starts and had pitched to a 1.82 ERA. That number ballooned to 2.78 after the outing against Philadelphia, with Alec Bohm accounting for four RBI against the right-hander. Despite the hiccup, Cease has been the Padres' most effective starter this season, and he'll look to bounce back into form in his next appearance, which projects to come on the road in Arizona. • Dylan Cease walks three, allows five in loss
Dylan Cease gave up five runs in six innings of work while picking up a loss Saturday against the Phillies.

Advice: Cease was going to have to be at his best to match Ranger Suárez, and unfortunately he wasn’t close. The right-hander did whiff five, but he gave up six hits that included a two-run homer from Alec Bohm. In his first season with the Padres, Cease has posted a very solid 2.78 ERA despite this not-so-effective outing. A chance to lower that figure comes Friday in Arizona. • Framber Valdez to go 70-75 pitches on Sunday
Astros’ manager Joe Espada told reporters on Saturday that Framber Valdez is expected to throw around 70-75 pitches in Sunday’s start against the Rockies.

Advice: It’s no surprise that Valdez would be a bit limited in his first start back from the injured list, so fantasy managers need to be aware that he may not stick around long enough to earn a victory. That — and the high run-scoring environment in Mexico City — may mean it’s best to leave Valdez on the bench before inserting him back into lineups for next week. Rotoworld Saturday, 1:57 pm
