      Emmanuel Clase struck out one batter in a scoreless tenth inning to earn the save against the Astros.

      Advice: After the Guardians took a one-run lead in the top of the tenth inning, Clase was called on to close it out in the bottom of the frame. He struck out the first batter, then got Mauricio Dubón to line into a double play with the help of an outstanding diving catch by Steven Kwan.       Clase (1-1) took the loss Sunday against Atlanta, allowing one unearned run on one hit in one-third of an inning.

      Advice: After striking out Ozzie Albies to open up the bottom half of the 10th frame, Clase surrendered a walk-off base hit to Austin Riley to bring home the designated runner. The outing snapped a streak of six consecutive scoreless appearances (covering six frames) and three straight perfect innings. Still, Clase is tied for the sixth-most saves in baseball with eight.       Dane Dunning yielded two runs — one earned — in 5 1/3 innings and struck out 10 against the Reds in a win Sunday.

      Advice: Dunning threw just 69 pitches, which is the fourth-lowest total in a 10-strikeout game since pitch-count data became complete in 1988. The lowest total is 55 pitches in 3 2/3 innings of relief work by Tyler Alexander in 2020. Norm Charlton struck out 10 in a 67-pitch start in 1989, and Chris Sale fanned 12 on just 68 pitches for the Red Sox six years ago. Dunning moved to 3-2 with a 4.13 ERA.       Reed Garrett got his fifth win after allowing only an unearned run between the 10th and 11th innings Sunday against the Cardinals.

      Advice: The automatic runner scored in the 11th, but that didn’t prove to be a problem, since the Mets came back with three in the bottom of the inning.       Dunning (3-2) earned the win after he pitched 5.1 innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits while striking out 10 in Sunday's 4-3 win over the Reds.

      Advice: Dunning was able to get back into the win column for the first time since April 12, recording a season-high 10 punchouts in the process. The right-hander tossed five scoreless frames before ultimately being tagged with a pair of runs, one of which was unearned, in the top of the sixth. Dunning also avoided giving up a home run in the outing, making it his first start in 2024 during which he was able to do so.       Diaz pitched a scoreless two-thirds of an inning in Saturday's 8-4 win over the Rangers to record his sixth save of the season.

      Advice: It didn't look like the closer's services would be necessary when the Reds took an 8-0 lead into the ninth inning, but Brent Suter served up back-to-back homers to Davis Wendzel and Corey Seager, and Diaz had to enter the game with one out and the tying run on deck. He was up to the task, needing seven pitches (five strikes) to get the final two outs. While his velocity remains down -- his fastball topped out at 94.0 mph Saturday -- Diaz is still getting results, converting six of seven save chances this season with a 3.27 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 11:6 K:BB through 11 innings. Díaz would come in with one out, two runners on, and the tying run on deck. He induced a quick pop out and a groundout to end the game with his sixth save of the season. He initially ran into some bad luck when a runner reached base on weak contact that didn't leave the infield, but the veteran lefty then threw a wild pitch and served up a home run to Gary Sanchez.
