    Advice: Diaz played in 90 games for Oakland in 2023 but did not make the club out of spring and was hitting just .204/.288/.327 in 29 games in Triple-A with two home runs. He doesn’t play strong enough defense at any position, so he will always need to hit above league average in order to crack an MLB roster.   • Rowdy Tellez starting versus lefty
    Rowdy Tellez is starting for the Pirates and hitting seventh despite facing a left-handed pitcher.

    Advice: The Pirates opted to sit Jack Suwinski against a lefty but instead of playing either Michael A. Taylor or Edward Olivares in the outfield, they decided to let Connor Joe play the outfield and put Tellez at first. Both Olivares and Taylor played on Wednesday night against a left-handed starter, so it’s possible that the team decided to give them a day off, but it’s telling that the club would rather have Tellez play against a lefty than Suwinski or have either of those outfielders play two days in a row.     Jake Cronenworth is starting at second base for the first time in the 2024 season.

    Advice: This felt inevitable after the Padres traded for Luis Arraez, who is a well below-average defensive second baseman. Arraez will now slide to first base with Cronenworth moving to second. Cronenworth has been an above-average defensive second baseman over the last four seasons, so this move doesn’t figure to hurt the Padres at all and could be a boost for their pitchers.     Advice: The 27-year-old led off the game with his first homer of the season as he produced his seventh straight multi-hit performance. Arraez has been raking since being traded to the Padres, slashing .391/.425/.478 in 73 plate appearances, and with Xander Bogaerts (shoulder) facing a lengthy absence, he should be locked in as San Diego's everyday second baseman.     Advice: Alonso opened the scoring in the first inning, sending a fastball from Triston McKenzie into the right-field seats for his 11th homer of the year. The 29-year-old Alonso has put together an eight-game hitting streak while going 18-for-59 (.305) with three homers and a .936 OPS in his last 14 contests.     Sano (knee) went 1-for-2 with a single and a strikeout in his first rehab game with the Arizona Complex League Angels on Wednesday.

    Advice: Sano is recovering from left knee inflammation, an injury which has kept him on the shelf for the entirety of May. He will eventually move up to a higher affiliate as he works his way back to the Angels' active roster.     Olson went 2-for-5 in Wednesday's win over the Cubs with a solo home run.

    Advice: Olson launched a two-out, solo homer in the top of the seventh to extend Atlanta's lead to seven runs, giving the first baseman his fourth long ball this month and seventh overall on the season. The veteran first baseman also added a single on the night, marking his ninth multi-hit performance of the campaign and fifth in his last nine games.
