• Set for another rehab appearance
Fairbanks (arm) will make a second rehab appearance with Triple-A Durham on Thursday, MLB.com reports.

Advice: The Rays were uncommitted to Fairbanks' status after he made an initial rehab appearance Tuesday. Assuming Thursday's outing goes according to plan, he may be back with the team as soon as this weekend's series against the Yankees. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 8:56 am

  • Pete Fairbanks will make another rehab appearance
Rays’ manager Kevin Cash told reporters on Wednesday that Pete Fairbanks will make another minor league rehab appearance at Triple-A Durham on Thursday.

Advice: The 30-year-old right-hander allowed two hits and struck out a batter over a scoreless inning of work in his first appearance. It’s possible, if all goes well on Thursday, that he could be cleared to return to the Rays’ bullpen for their weekend series against the Yankees. Rotoworld Wednesday, 4:36 pm

  • May get another rehab outing
Rays manager Kevin Cash said Tuesday that the team will discuss whether Fairbanks (arm) will be activated or make another rehab appearance, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Advice: Fairbanks allowed two hits but completed a scoreless inning with Triple-A Durham on Tuesday. He averaged 97.3 mph with his four-seamer in the appearance, which is up a bit from his season average. It sounds like Fairbanks could be back as soon as the weekend series against the Yankees, but that decision hasn't been announced yet. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 6:55 am

  • Stott has two hits, steal in win
Bryson Stott went 2-for-4 with a stolen base in a win over the Blue Jays on Tuesday.

Advice: Stott picked up two singles to up his triple slash to .245/.339/.377 on the year and also swiped his eighth stolen base. Stott has moved around between second base and shortstop since Trea Turner went down with a hamstring injury, and it’s hard to imagine Stott getting many days off over the next six weeks while Turner is out. The power hasn’t been there this year, but the steals are valuable and Stott should get the opportunity to pick up important counting stats while hitting in a good lineup. • On bench again
Cabrera is out of the Yankees' lineup for Tuesday's game against the Astros.

Advice: Cabrera will be available off the bench for a second straight game after making 22 straight starts at third base. Jon Berti will man the hot corner and bat ninth against Houston. Rotowire.com Tuesday, 11:51 am

  • Rays send Pete Fairbanks on rehab assignment
Rays send RHP Pete Fairbanks (nerve issue) on a rehab assignment to Triple-A Durham.

Advice: Fairbanks has been sidelined since April 22 after he was placed on the injured list due to a nerve-related condition. He’ll get his first rehab start in Durham since being sidelined and if everything goes to plan, the 30-year-old hurler should be back with Tampa Bay in the next week or so. • Getting start at shortstop
Stott will start at shortstop and bat seventh in Monday's game versus the Giants, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Edmundo Sosa handled shortstop for the Phillies in the team's first two games without Trea Turner (hamstring), but Stott will man the position Monday while Whit Merrifield plays second base. Stott is making his first start at shortstop since Game 6 of the 2022 World Series. Rotowire.com Monday, 9:15 am

  • Back to baseball work
Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Sunday that LeMahieu (foot) recently resumed hitting but that the veteran infielder may not be "that close to being ready for rehab [games]," Chris Kirschner of The Athletic reports.

Advice: The 35-year-old was shut down for a week in late April after he experienced swelling in his foot during a rehab game, and he's now back to taking part in baseball activities. It's an encouraging development following the setback, but LeMahieu still has some work to do in his recovery before again being cleared for minor-league action. Rotowire.com Sunday, 2:35 pm

  • Allows two homers in no-decision
Falter did not factor into the decision, allowing three runs on six hits and two walks over 5.1 innings Sunday against the Rockies. He struck out three.

Advice: Falter allowed three consecutive extra-base hits, including back-to-back homers, in the second inning, resulting in three runs crossing the plate. However, he was able to keep the Pirates in the game, working his way through 5.1 frames without allowing any additional damage. Falter has tossed at least five innings in six of seven starts this season while allowing three or fewer runs in five of those games for an ERA of 4.34 with a quality 1.02 WHIP. Despite his general effectiveness, Falter's spot in the rotation appears shaky as Pirates top-prospect Paul Skenes also pitched Sunday in Triple-A with a call to the majors likely not far off for the highly-touted righty. When Skenes does receive the call, it will likely be either Falter or Quinn Priester who is likely to lose a rotation spot with the currently injured Marco Gonzales also muddying up the waters further if he eventually returns from a forearm issue that's kept him sidelined since April 14.
