      Dylan Cease allowed just a run in 6 2/3 innings against the Diamondbacks on Friday while picking up a win.

      Advice: Cease was able to pick up his fourth win of the season with the victory. The right-hander picked up eight strikeouts in the process while not issuing any walks. When the 28-year-old throws strikes, he’s one of the toughest pitchers to have success against, and Friday was a good example of that. He’ll look to repeat his success against the Cubs next week.       Nola did not factor into the decision Friday, allowing two runs on four hits and four walks over four innings. He struck out four.

      Advice: Both of the Giants' runs came in the second inning on a Thairo Estrada double, though it certainly could've been a lot worse -- Nola needed 46 pitches to get through the frame, issuing four walks. The right-hander was ultimately pulled after throwing 89 pitches through four innings, as he failed to qualify for the win. Nola, who'd gone eight innings in each of his previous two starts, is 4-1 on the season with a 3.32 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 40:15 K:BB across seven outings (43.1 innings).     • Aaron Nola pulled after four versus Giants
      Aaron Nola was lifted after allowing two runs and walking four in four innings Friday against the Giants.

      Advice: A really odd start for Nola, who pretty much always lasts five innings unless he’s truly bad or hurt. Tonight, though, he walked four for the second time this season — he did that just once between 2022 and ’23 — and the Phillies didn’t think it was worth sending him back out for the fifth at 89 pitches. They were probably right, too, as the bullpen went on to allowing one run over five innings in a 4-3 win. Nola’s velocity is down, and he’s struggled to generate as many missed swings as usual. The hope is that he’ll get stronger, and he probably deserves the benefit of the doubt, given his history.       The Marlins traded Arraez to the Padres on Friday in exchange for Dillon Head, Woo-suk Go, Nathan Martorella and Jakob Marsee, Craig Mish of the Miami Herald reports.

      Advice: It's not immediately clear how Arraez will fit into the Padres' lineup, as San Diego already has a strong infield unit that includes Jake Cronenworth, Xander Bogaerts, Ha-Seong Kim and Manny Machado, but it's possible Arraez fills in as the Friars' primary designated hitter. The 27-year-old is slashing .299/.347/.372 across 148 plate appearances so far this season, and his departure from Miami leaves Vidal Brujan as the favorite to take over as the Marlins' main second baseman.     • Padres closing in on deal to acquire Luis Arraez
      Jeff Passan of ESPN reports that the Padres are finalizing a deal to acquire second baseman Luis Arraez from the Marlins.

      Advice: Passan notes that the Marlins will receive a package of three prospects and a relief pitcher in return for the two-time defending batting champion. The Padres already have a strong combo up the middle with Ha-Seong Kim and Xander Bogaerts, so its likely that the plan is to play Arraez at either first base or third base.       Manager Alex Cora said Friday that Yoshida will get a second opinion on his strained left thumb, Christopher Smith of The Springfield Republican reports.

      Advice: Cora previously said Thursday that Yoshida may need to undergo surgery on his thumb after straining it during Sunday's win over the Cubs, but the 30-year-old will wait to hear from another doctor before determining the best course of action. Yoshida has slashed .275/.348/.388 with 11 RBI across 89 plate appearances this season, and an update on his status should be available within the next several days.       Pete Fairbanks (nerve issue) will begin a minor league rehab assignment at Triple-A Durham on Tuesday.

      Fairbanks (arm) is set to begin a rehab stint at Triple-A Durham on Tuesday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reported Friday.

      Advice: Fairbanks has been dealing with a nerve issue in his throwing arm and after receiving positive results on testing done in late April, he's set to begin throwing in-game. It's unclear how long his stint in Durham will be, but once Fairbanks is back with the Rays, expect him to reclaim closing duties from Jason Adam and Garrett Cleavinger.
