    • Jorge Soler connects for two-run homer in loss
Jorge Soler crushed a two-run homer on Saturday in the Giants’ extra-inning loss to the Pirates.

Advice: Soler hasn’t quite found his groove at the dish this season in his Giants debut, but Saturday’s extra-inning round-tripper off Pirates closer David Bednar -- his fifth long ball of the season -- might help get him going again. The 32-year-old slugger’s plate skills have been right in line with career norms, so it feels like only a matter of time before he really heats up. Rotoworld 19 minutes ago

    • Four hits in return to lineup
Yoshida went 4-for-5 with an RBI and three runs scored in Saturday's victory over the Cubs.

Advice: Yoshida did not start the previous five games, as the Red Sox utilized Rafael Devers and Tyler O'Neill at designated hitter as they returned from injuries. He did his best to make up for lost time Saturday, doubling in a run while also adding three singles. While he has been used very little this week, the expectation is that Yoshida will remain the team's primary DH moving forward. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 5:57 pm
    • Not starting Saturday
Velazquez is not in the starting lineup for Saturday's game against the Tigers.

Advice: Velazquez will begin Saturday's game on the bench with the Tigers sending out right-hander Casey Mize. Velazquez is hitless over his last six games and has reached base twice on walks over that span. Lefty-hitting Adam Frazier will start at DH and bat fifth in the lineup Saturday. • Masataka Yoshida back in lineup Saturday vs. Cubs
Masataka Yoshida is back in the lineup for Saturday’s showdown against the Cubs.

Advice: Yoshida is back in Boston’s starting lineup for the first time in five contests since last weekend. The 30-year-old slugger holds a .660 OPS with two homers through 22 games this season and has ceded playing time at designated hitter lately due to Rafael Devers’ ongoing physical issues. • Back in starting lineup
Yoshida will start at designated hitter and bat sixth in Saturday's game against the Cubs, Rob Bradford of WEEI.com reports.

Advice: Yoshida was not in Boston's starting lineup over the last five games, though he did appear in two contests as a pinch hitter. His absence over the last three games coincided with Rafael Devers starting at DH after missing time due to a left bone bruise, and the Red Sox appear reluctant to start Yoshida in the outfield early in the season. Devers will shift to third base for Saturday's game, while Yoshida resumes his role as the designated hitter against Cubs right-hander Ben Brown. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 8:44 am
    • Remains out of lineup
Yoshida is not in the lineup for Friday's contest against the Cubs.

Advice: It marks the fourth straight game that Yoshida has been absent from the lineup. Rafael Devers is getting another start at designated hitter Friday and the Red Sox don't seem to trust Yoshida's defense in the outfield, leading to him receiving just one plate appearance so far this week. The plan is for Devers to return to third base Saturday, with Yoshida being used at DH that day. Rotowire.com Friday, 11:58 am
    • Heads to bench Thursday
Velazquez is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Blue Jays.

Advice: With the Royals looking to give Vinnie Pasquantino a day out of the field and Salvador Perez a day off behind the plate in the series finale, Velazquez will be a casualty from the Kansas City lineup. Pasquantino will serve as the Royals' designated hitter in Velazquez's stead, while Perez takes over Pasquantino's usual spot at first base. Rotowire.com Thursday, 8:32 am
    • Absent from lineup again
Yoshida is out of the lineup for Thursday's game in Cleveland.

Advice: Red Sox manager Alex Cora insisted prior to Wednesday's game against the Guardians that Yoshida was still the team's everyday designated hitter. However, he's now out of the lineup for a third straight contest and for the sixth time in eight games, with all but one of those absences coming versus righties. Rafael Devers will start at DH again Thursday as he comes back from a knee issue, and Yoshida presumably will be back in the lineup once Devers is ready to return to third base. Clearly, the club has little faith in Yoshida's glove, as he's played just one inning in left field this season. Rotowire.com Thursday, 8:11 am
    • Still viewed as everyday DH
Red Sox manager Alex Cora said prior to Wednesday's 8-0 win over the Guardians that Yoshida is still viewed as the team's primary designated hitter, despite being on the bench for two straight matchups with right-handed starting pitchers, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports. "He's an everyday DH, man," Cora said of Yoshida. "I don't know what the big deal is. [Tyler] O'Neill had to DH [on Tuesday]. [Rafael Devers] had to DH [on Wednesday]."

Advice: Yoshida's consecutive absences from the lineup created some question regarding whether the 30-year-old was still viewed as an everyday player after struggling to a .250/.333/.375 slash line through the Red Sox's first 24 games of the season, but Cora dispelled the notion that Yoshida's role was being downsized. The skipper noted that the Red Sox's injury situation was largely responsible for Yoshida being excluded from the lineup, as O'Neill was limited to DH duties when he came off the 7-day injured list ahead of Tuesday's 4-1 loss, and Devers was eased back in as a DH on Wednesday after having not played in a week due to a bone bruise in his left knee. O'Neill returned to his usual spot in left field Wednesday, but Devers may need another day or two as a DH before the Red Sox clear him to play third base. Since the Red Sox aren't keen on having Yoshida play in the corner outfield, he could miss out on more starts until Devers is back at third base on a full-time basis. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 6:45 pm
