      Diamondbacks manager Torrey Lovullo said Friday that Sewald (oblique) is expected back Tuesday for Arizona's road trip, John Gambadoro of ArizonaSports.com reports.

      Advice: Sewald's rehab program was paused after the right-hander experienced soreness from his appearance with Triple-A Reno earlier this week. He returned to action with a bullpen session Wednesday, and the right-hander is slated to pitch in an extended game Saturday, per Jesse Friedman of GoPHNX.com. If all goes well, Sewald could be back with the team as soon as Tuesday in Cincinnati.       Advice: Cole will throw off a mound for the first time since being placed on the 60-day injured list with nerve irritation and edema in his right elbow in late March. The 33-year-old is reportedly targeting a return in "mid June," according to Heyman. The right-hander is eligible to be activated from the IL on May 27, but it appears as if he will remain sidelined for awhile longer than that. With his pedigree, it comes as no surprise that the Yankees are being cautious with their ace, who produced a 2.63 ERA with a 9.6 K/9 over 209 innings in 33 starts last year.       Lugo (5-1) picked up the win Wednesday in a 6-1 victory over the Blue Jays, allowing one run on two hits and two walks over seven innings. He struck out eight.

The quality start was Lugo's sixth in seven trips to the mound, and the two-year, $30 million contract he signed in December is looking like an absolute bargain for the Royals.       Mason Miller fired a perfect ninth inning on Wednesday in a non-save situation against the Pirates.

      Advice: Miller got the call to protect a four-run lead in the final frame after needing 16 pitches to close out Tuesday’s victory less than 24 hours ago. He got Jack Suwinski to ground out and fanned Henry Davis before coaxing a game-ending ground out from Ke’Bryan Hayes. He averaged 100.8 mph on his fastball and needed just 10 pitches to spin a perfect frame. The hard-throwing 25-year-old righty has reeled off 12 consecutive scoreless appearances since April 2, and has converted eight saves to go along with a microscopic 1.26 ERA, 0.77 WHIP and 29/4 K/BB ratio across 14 1/3 innings of work.
