    • Colton Cowser absent from Orioles lineup on Friday
Colton Cowser is not in the Orioles’ starting lineup for Friday night’s showdown against the Reds.

Advice: After lighting the world on fire at the plate for a while after joining the Orioles’ starting lineup, Cowser has struggled recently — hitting just .107/.265/.143 with zero homers, one RBI and a 14/5 K/BB ratio over 34 plate appearances in his last nine games. Heston Hjerstad will start in his place on Friday night and will bat eighth against Hunter Greene and the Reds. Rotoworld Today, 1:30 pm

    • Receives day off
Cowser is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Reds.

Advice: Cowser will get a breather Friday as Heston Kjerstad handles left field. Through 30 games, Cowser is slashing .277/.351/.578 with six homers and three stolen bases. Rotowire.com Today, 12:16 pm

    • Double, RBI in loss
O'Neill went 1-for-2 with two walks, a double and an RBI in Thursday's 3-1 loss to the Giants.

Advice: O'Neill had a terrific first month in a Boston uniform and continues to outperform his career standards. The outfielder has a 1.096 OPS, second in MLB behind only Mookie Betts. Rotowire.com Today, 4:16 am

    • Homers vs. Yankees
Mountcastle went 2-for-4 with a home run, two total RBI and an additional run scored in Thursday's 7-2 win over the Yankees.

Advice: Mountcastle got the Orioles on the board in the third inning with a solo shot off Carlos Rodon, tying the game 1-1. He'd add a second RBI with a base hit in the fifth, extending the lead to 4-1, before scoring on a Jordan Westburg triple. It was a nice finish to the series for the 27-year-old Mountcastle, who'd gone 0-for-12 in the first three games against New York. The first baseman boosted his slash line to .290/.345/.495 with five homers, 16 RBI and 18 runs scored through 28 games this season. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 4:25 pm

    • Tyler O’Neill drives in run, reaches three times
Tyler O’Neill drove in a run while reaching three times in a loss to the Giants on Thursday.

Advice: O’Neill was responsible for the only run of the game for the Red Sox with a double off Kyle Harrison in the third that scored Rafael Devers. O’Neill was also able to draw a pair of walks, and he improves his line in 2024 to .309/.429/.667. Calling his first month-plus as a member of the Red Sox is quite the understatement. • Ryan Mountcastle’s homer helps O’s beat Yankees
Ryan Mountcastle went 2-for-4 with a solo homer in a 7-2 win for the Orioles over the Yankees on Thursday.

Advice: Mountcastle tied the game at 1-1 with his solo homer off Carlos Rodón in the third inning. That’s the fifth homer of the year, and his RBI single in the fifth brings that total to 16. It’s easy to forget about the 27-year-old because of all the star power in Baltimore, but Mountcastle is no slouch, and he’s slashing .290/.345/.495 to prove it. Rotoworld Yesterday, 2:05 pm

    • Rehab start coming soon
Luzardo (elbow) threw a successful bullpen session Thursday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Luzardo will make a rehab start sometime during the Marlins' upcoming road trip. The left-hander is eligible for activation from the 15-day injured list on May 10, and he could be a realistic candidate to start against the Phillies that day, if all goes well in his throwing program. Luzardo has been working his way back from a mild left flexor strain. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 7:57 am

    • Sitting against southpaw
Abreu is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Giants, Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald reports.

Advice: With southpaw Kyle Harrison on the bump for the Giants, the lefty-hitting Abreu will retreat to the bench for the series finale. The Red Sox will have Tyler O'Neill move from his usual spot in left field to replace Abreu in right. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 7:32 am

    • Secures eighth save
Iglesias gave up a hit and a walk in a scoreless ninth inning Wednesday to record his eighth save of the season in a 5-2 win over the Mariners.

Advice: It wasn't the sharpest appearance for Iglesias, who put two batters on base before getting an out, but he settled down and took care of the heart of Seattle's order without too much more trouble. The right-hander has converted eight of his nine save chances to begin the year while posting a typically stingy 2.19 ERA and 1.05 WHIP through 12.1 innings, but there are signs Iglesias isn't quite in peak form -- his 94.5 mph average fastball is his lowest velocity since 2016, and his 18.0 percent strikeout rate is a massive drop from the 29.4 percent mark he delivered last season. His top velocity Wednesday was 95.3 mph, on a two-seamer to Luke Raley. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 6:16 am
