  • No timetable for return to majors
    Astros manager Joe Espada said Tuesday that Abreu has "no timetable" to return to the major-league team, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.

    Advice: Abreu was optioned to the rookie-level Astros' Arizona Complex League affiliate last week after hitting just .099/.156/.113 slash line in 77 plate appearances this season. He's been working on getting his swing right and is "doing very well," per Espada, although Abreu hasn't played in any official games yet.     Diaz (calf) has resumed taking batting practice but is not yet running the bases, MLB.com reports.

    Advice: The veteran began a light running program in mid-April, but as this latest report indicates, he hasn't progressed to carrying it out fully just yet. The fact Diaz is back to swinging a bat is certainly a positive, however, but he appears to be at least a month away from his season debut given the expected length of the rehab assignment he'll require.     Advice: Cronenworth's first theft of the campaign came as part of a double-steal with Fernando Tatis in the sixth inning, and both players subsequently came home on a Jurickson Profar single. Cronenworth doesn't typically offer much in terms of speed, though he did swipe a career-high six bags last season.     Cardinals sent DH Matt Carpenter (oblique) on a rehab assignment to Triple-A Memphis.

    Advice: The 38-year-old veteran was taking swings prior to the weekend and will get his first rehab assignment since being placed on the injured list in early April. If all things go well, the Cardinals should expect Carpenter to be on the active roster in the coming days, but fantasy managers might want to consider other options if they need additional depth on their rosters.     Advice: Duran made his first outfield start of 2024, coming against lefty Alex Wood. He was eventually pinch hit for by Evan Carter when a right-handed reliever entered the game. Duran, who started 32 games in the outfield last season, will be part of the crew that replaces the injured Wyatt Langford (hamstring), who is expected to miss three-to-four weeks. Duran is the lone righty-hitting outfielder in that replacement mix, joining lefties Carter and Travis Jankowski. Of the trio, Carter is expected to get the bulk of the starts.
