• Marlins designate Darren McCaughan for assignment
Marlins designate Darren McCaughan for assignment.

Advice: McCaughan was removed from Miami’s 40-man roster over the weekend after spending just a couple days up with the big-league club. Rotoworld 30 minutes ago
  • Marlins call up Eli Villalobos from Triple-A
Marlins selected the contract of RHP Eli Villalobos from Triple-A Jacksonville.

Advice: Villalobos was called up over the weekend by the Marlins as extra relief depth. The 26-year-old righty made his big-league debut over the weekend and figures to continue to pitching in middle relief. Rotoworld 35 minutes ago
  • Marlins recall George Soriano on Tuesday
Marlins recalled RHP George Soriano from Triple-A Jacksonville.

Advice: Soriano provides the Marlins with a fresh bullpen arm ahead of Tuesday’s showdown out west against the Dodgers in Los Angeles. The 25-year-old righty has made eight relief appearances this season in the big leagues, struggling to an inflated 10.29 ERA, 1.86 WHIP and 8/6 K/BB ratio across seven innings of work. • Recalled from Jacksonville
The Marlins recalled Soriano from Triple-A Jacksonville on Tuesday.

Advice: Soriano will come up from the minors to provide additional depth to the Marlins' bullpen as Roddery Munoz heads back to Triple-A. Soriano gave up eight earned runs in seven innings during his first big-league stint this year, so he will likely be limited to low-leverage work while in the majors. Rotowire.com Today, 4:12 pm
  • Rough day vs. Texas
Stripling (1-6) took the loss Wednesday against the Rangers, allowing 11 runs (five earned) on 10 hits and two walks over 1.2 innings. He struck out two.

Advice: It was certainly an outing to forget for Stripling -- after allowing a leadoff homer to Marcus Semien in the first inning, the right-hander allowed the first seven batters to reach in the second as Texas would put up a 10 spot in the frame. Stripling had held opponents to three runs or fewer in four straight starts prior to Wednesday's implosion. His ERA is now up to 5.14 with a 1.57 WHIP and 29:10 K:BB through eight starts (42 innings) this year. Stripling will look to get back on track in his next outing, tentatively lined up for this weekend in Seattle. Rotowire.com Today, 4:09 pm

  • Earns win in first start
Urena (1-2) earned the win Wednesday against Oakland, allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits and two walks over five innings. He struck out two.

Advice: Urena was able to minimize the damage through his first two innings before holding the A's to just one baserunner (who reached on an error) over his final three frames. The 32-year-old Urena had allowed four earned runs over 3.2 innings in his previous two appearances out of the bullpen. His ERA sits at 3.86 with a 1.29 WHIP and 18:11 K:BB this season. With Nathan Eovaldi (groin) working his way back from the IL, Urena will likely return to a relief role. Rotowire.com Today, 4:03 pm

  • José Ureña goes five innings for win against A’s
José Ureña was charged with two runs (one earned) over five innings on Tuesday in a win over the Athletics.

Advice: Ureña drew the spot starting assignment for Tuesday afternoon’s matinee out in Oakland and wound up getting 15 runs of support from the Rangers’ offense by the time he left the contest after five frames. He struck out two and also issued a pair of walks. He’ll presumably continue to operate in a swingman-type role for Texas until further notice. Rotoworld Today, 3:49 pm

  • Ross Stripling shelled for 11 runs in A’s loss
Ross Stripling was obliterated for 11 runs (five earned) over 1 2/3 innings on Tuesday in a loss to the Rangers.

Advice: Stripling was ostensibly forced to wear it for the Athletics on Tuesday afternoon as the Rangers torched him for 10 hits before he was mercifully lifted from the contest without escaping the second inning. The calamitous blow-up outing balloons his full-season ERA from 4.24 to a ghastly 5.14 in the process. The 34-year-old veteran righty will aim to turn things around on Sunday when he faces the Mariners up in Seattle. Rotoworld Today, 3:48 pm

  • Nearly perfect in second rehab start
Peterson (hip) struck out four and allowed one hit and no walks Friday for Single-A St. Lucie in the second start of his rehab assignment.

Advice: Peterson has now permitted just one baserunner while striking out nine over his first two rehab starts with St. Lucie and could be ready for a stiffer test with a higher-level affiliate. He built up to 41 pitches (23 strikes) on Friday and will likely need to bring his count up to around 75 before the Mets feel comfortable bringing him back from the 60-day injured list. After opening the season on the shelf while he continued his recovery from left hip surgery, Peterson won't be eligible for activation until late May. Rotowire.com Today, 3:28 pm
