He's even chipped in a pair of stolen bases in that span. Alvarez is up to 13 homers, 33 RBI, 37 runs scored, 15 doubles and three steals while slashing .296/.369/.514 over 64 contests. His spot in the lineup is virtually never in question, but he's picked up more time in left field recently with Chas McCormick sliding over to right to cover for the absence of Kyle Tucker (lower leg). It continues a positive trend for Brown, who is pitching deeper into games, though his 4.3 BB/9 on the year remains alarmingly high. The right-hander also has a 5.58 ERA, 1.52 WHIP and 67:29 K:BB over 61.1 innings through 13 appearances (12 starts). He's tentatively projected to make his next start at home versus the Tigers.     Advice: Tovar kicked off the scoring in the first inning with an RBI single to left field. That was just the beginning of a massive performance by the young shortstop -- he added a solo homer in the sixth and a tiebreaking two-run shot in the seventh. The four-hit game was Tovar's second of the campaign, and he finished with his second multi-homer performance of the season. Duran came into this series in Chicago having failed to steal a bag in 14 straight games, but he's swiped three in the last two contests to give him 14 on the season.     Clayton Kershaw (shoulder) is scheduled to throw one more three-inning simulated game before beginning a minor league rehab assignment.

    Advice: Kershaw threw a two-inning simulated game at Single-A Rancho Cucamonga on Friday without any issue, touching 90 mph during the session. If all goes well with his next simulated game, he would then be cleared to start a minor league rehab assignment. He still looks to be on track for a return around the All-Star break.     Advice: Gray appeared in relief of Andrew Heaney on Saturday in his first appearance since May 21, after he was placed on the IL with a groin strain. The right-hander certainly looked healthy, as he struck out four of the nine batters he faced. Overall, Gray is 2-2 with a 2.12 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 60:18 K:BB across 59.1 innings this year.     Kershaw (shoulder) will throw a three-inning simulated game next week and then start a rehab assignment, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports Saturday.

    Advice: Kershaw completed a two-inning sim game Friday -- his second simulated game of June -- and will throw another one next week before being sent off to a rehab assignment. The veteran lefty touched 90 mph Friday and is ahead of schedule in his recovery from November shoulder surgery.     Jordan Romano (elbow) is scheduled to resume throwing on Monday.

    Advice: Blue Jays manager John Schneider added that Romano received an anti-inflammatory injection in his right elbow last weekend. It’s going to take a couple weeks for the 31-year-old closer to build up his arm strength before returning to Toronto’s bullpen, but it’s an encouraging sign that he’s been cleared to resume throwing again.
