  • Report: Tanner Scott could be next Marlin traded
    According to Buster Olney, sources told him that Tanner Scott is “the guy on their roster you’d look at” but Josh Bell could also interest teams as well.

    Advice: After the Marlins traded Luis Arraez this weekend, assuming a firesale would follow was only logical. Scott was electric as the closer for the Marlins last year, but has seen some control issues resurface this season. He has a 2.77 ERA and four saves, but he also has 14 walks in 13 innings. If he were to be traded, he would likely serve as a setup man, and the Marlins could turn back to A.J. Puk in the closer’s role which means Puk could be worth a speculative add in leagues.   • Tosses six shutout frames
    Assad (3-0) allowed four hits and three walks over six scoreless innings Sunday, striking out four and earning a win over the Brewers.

    Advice: Assad scattered baserunners throughout his start but never faced any heavy threats. He's allowed two or fewer runs in each of his first seven outings of 2024, but Sunday's performance was his first quality start since his season debut April 2. Assad dropped his season ERA to 1.66 with a 31:12 K:BB through 38 innings. He failed to factor into the decision in his previous three starts despite registering a 1.76 ERA over that span.     Finnegan walked one batter during one scoreless inning to pick up the save Sunday against the Blue Jays.

    Advice: Finnegan has not allowed an earned run over his last 13 appearances and converted his 10th straight save opportunity for the surprising Nationals, who moved to .500 on the season with the win.   • Javier Assad fires six scoreless to defeat Brewers
    Javier Assad delivered a strong performance in Sunday afternoon’s victory over the Brewers, scattering just four hits over six innings of shutout baseball.

    Advice: The 26-year-old right-hander struck out four batters while issuing three free passes in the ballgame. The Brewers never really mounted a serious scoring threat against him, and he was able to cruise to an easy victory in this one. Assad got seven swings and misses on 94 pitches on the afternoon, registering a CSW of 29 percent. Now 3-0 on the season, Assad sports an impressive 1.66 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and a 31/12 K/BB ratio over 38 innings through his first seven starts on the season.     Lorenzen allowed one earned run on four hits and three walks while striking out three batters in six innings during Friday's loss to the Royals. He didn't factor into the decision.

    Advice: Despite allowing a fair amount of traffic on the bases, Lorenzen was able to keep the Royals' bats quiet for six innings outside of a fifth-inning solo home run off the bat of Hunter Renfroe. Lorenzen now sports a 3.52 ERA through across 23 innings through his first four starts, and he should have an opportunity to stay hot as he faces the A's in Oakland on Wednesday.   • Michael Lorenzen holds Royals to one run over six
    Michael Lorenzen surrendered one run over six innings without factoring into the decision Friday against the Royals.

    Advice: Lorenzen and Brady Singer were both excellent in what was a pitching duel for the first six innings. Lorenzen allowed just four hits, and while he did walk three, he was able to escape jams outside of a homer from Hunter Renfroe in the fifth. The 32-year-old bounced back from his five-run outing against the Reds last week, and it lowers his ERA on the season to 3.52.   • Strikes out side for 10th save
    Finnegan picked up the save over the Rangers on Wednesday, striking out the side in a perfect ninth inning.

    Advice: The right-hander took over in the bottom of the ninth with a 1-0 lead and ran right through the Rangers lineup, retiring all three batters on swinging strikeouts to secure his 10th save of the season, tying him with Ryan Helsley, Robert Suarez and Clay Holmes for the league lead. Finnegan has successfully converted each of his last nine save attempts and hasn't allowed a hit over his last eight appearances (spanning eight innings), posting a 9:1 K:BB over that stretch.     Kyle Finnegan struck out the side in a scoreless ninth inning to earn the save against the Rangers on Wednesday.

    Scott (1-4) earned the win Tuesday over Colorado, allowing an unearned run on a hit and a walk in one inning. He struck out two.

    Advice: Scott allowed the free runner to score in the top of the 10th inning on a two-out Ryan McMahon double before ultimately striking out Hunter Goodman to end the frame. The Marlins would then score twice in the bottom half, completing the comeback victory and giving Scott his first win this year. The left-hander hasn't allowed an earned run in his last six appearances -- he's 4-for-5 in save chances this year with a 2.84 ERA, 1.66 WHIP and 12:13 K:BB across 12.2 innings.
