    • Taking seat against RHP
Wells is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against Cincinnati.

Advice: Despite right-hander Graham Ashcraft pitching for the Reds, the lefty-hitting Wells will be held out of the Yankees lineup. Instead, Jose Trevino will bat ninth and catch. Rotowire.com 57 minutes ago

    • Resumes rehab assignment
Votto (ankle/back) resumed his rehab assignment in the rookie-level Florida Complex League on Tuesday before shifting his assignment to Single-A Dunedin later in the week and going 0-for-6 with a strikeout in his first two games in the Florida State League.

Advice: After experiencing lower-back tightness coming out of his third rehab game in the FCL on June 19, Votto was held out of action for a little less than a week before returning to the lineup. Votto will continue to stockpile at-bats in the lower levels of the minors before eventually making his way to Triple-A Buffalo and getting activated from the affiliate's 7-day injured list. If Votto performs well at Buffalo, he could be in the mix for a promotion to Toronto's big-league roster at some point in the second half of the season. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 10:03 am

    • Justin Verlander has started playing catch
Astros general manager Dana Brown said Justin Verlander (neck) has resumed playing catch.

Advice: The 41-year-old has been on the injured list since the middle of June with a neck issue, and the Astros have been tight-lipped about his recovery. According to The Athletic’s Chandler Rome, “Verlander has deferred all questions to the team, which remains insistent this injury is just a neck issue,” but the team has said that he’ll need a prolonged buildup and then at least one rehab start, which means a return before the All-Star break feels unlikely. • Allows four runs in seven frames
Severino did not factor into the decision Sunday, allowing four runs on eight hits and a walk over seven innings against the Astros. He struck out three.

Advice: Severino was highly efficient if not incredibly effective, needing just 79 pitches to complete seven innings despite allowing four runs and nine baserunners while throwing a first-pitch strike to just 13 of 28 batters. He also struck out only three after fanning a season-high 10 batters in his previous outing. It's the fifth consecutive start in which he's gone at least six innings, though it's the second time within those starts that he allowed at least four earned runs. Severino's next opportunity to toe the rubber is slated to take place next weekend when the Mets travel to Pittsburgh to take on the Pirates. Rotowire.com Sunday, 7:54 pm

    • Luis Severino lasts seven innings in no-decision
Luis Severino allowed four runs in seven innings against the Astros on Sunday. He struck out three and walked one.

Advice: Severino pitched better than his line would indicate. The Astros dinked and dunked most of their hits as Severino pounded the zone with sinkers. He threw that pitch 63% of the time along with 14% four-seam fastballs along with 5% cutters; that made 82% of his total pitches fastball variations. This strategy has helped fuel Severino’s bounce-back season with a 3.42 ERA, yet only 74 strikeouts in 97 1/3 innings. Rotoworld Sunday, 4:35 pm

    • Resumes throwing
Astros general manager Dana Brown said Sunday that Verlander (neck) resumed playing catch from 60 feet Sunday and "felt good," Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.

Advice: The 41-year-old's return to throwing is an encouraging development after he was shut down for a bit while recovering from neck soreness. Given the prolonged shutdown period, Verlander shouldn't be expected to return from the injured list when first eligible this week and will likely need to make a minor-league rehab start prior to being activated. • Receiving Sunday off
Correa is out of the lineup for Sunday's game at Seattle.

Advice: The veteran shortstop was in the lineup the past two days after being hit by a pitch on the right wrist Thursday, but he'll receive a day off for Sunday's series finale. Correa didn't appear to be affected by the injury as he went 3-for-8 with a two-run homer and an additional run scored in the first two games of the series. Rotowire.com Sunday, 11:14 am

    • Surprise addition to lineup
Soto (hand) will start in right field and bat second Sunday against the Blue Jays.

Advice: The 25-year-old was originally slated to sit Sunday and said he may undergo an MRI or CT scan Monday when the Yankees are back in New York, so his late addition to the lineup is a major surprise. It's unclear if Soto will still require any of the medical imaging, but he's apparently feeling well enough to play despite experiencing some pain and weakness in his bruised right hand Saturday. • Juan Soto (hand) back in starting lineup vs. Jays
Juan Soto (hand) is back in the starting lineup and hitting second while playing right field against the Blue Jays on Sunday.

Advice: Soto was originally not in the lineup, but the 25-year-old is feeling well enough to get back out there after missing Saturday’s contest with a contusion in his hand. It’s most welcome news for fantasy managers who have their superstar back in the lineup. J.D. Davis is back to the bench with Soto returning. Rotoworld Sunday, 10:36 am
