    • Vladimir Guerrero Jr. goes 0-for-4 in defeat
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. finished 0-for-4 with an RBI against the Dodgers on Friday.

Advice: Typical Guerrero this year: he crushed a pair of grounders at 109.5 and 106.7 mph, yet his two flies were both hit softly. Statcast thinks he’s been unlucky, and he probably has been, but even his xBA and xSLG are down significantly from last year. Rotoworld 35 minutes ago
    • Kyle Finnegan slams door on Marlins in ninth
Kyle Finnegan secured his eighth save of the season on Friday night, working a scoreless ninth inning to preserve a two-run lead against the Marlins.

Advice: The 32-year-old right-hander made things look awfully easy in this one, getting Josh Bell on a swinging third strike, Jesus Sanchez on a line out to shortstop and Tim Anderson on a ground ball to second — needing only six pitches (all strikes) to get the job done. The underlying metrics aren’t great, but it’s hard to argue with the results that Finnegan has put up so far. He now boasts a 2.38 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and a 10/5 K/BB ratio over 11 1/3 innings while converting eight of his first nine save chances. Rotoworld 40 minutes ago
    • Not starting Friday
Merrill (groin) is not in the starting lineup for Friday's game against the Phillies, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Advice: Merrill was taken out of the lineup ahead of Thursday's loss to the Rockies as a precaution, and he was expected to be back Friday, per Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune. It appears the groin injury is still lingering, however, and the rookie outfielder will not start for a second consecutive game. With Merrill out of the lineup, Jose Azocar will start in center field, Jurickson Profar will be in left field and Manny Machado will make his return from his paternity leave to start at third base. • Jackson Merrill (groin) remains out of lineup
Jackson Merrill (groin) remained out of the Padres’ starting lineup for Friday night’s game against the Phillies.

Advice: The 21-year-old outfielder had portrayed optimism that him being held out of the lineup on Thursday was a precautionary measure and that he wouldn’t be forced to miss any extended time. Hopefully that’s still the case, but it’s a bit discouraging to see him held out once more. Jose Azocar will start in his place in center field and will bat ninth against Aaron Nola and the Phillies on Friday night. Rotoworld Today, 2:26 pm

    • Andrés Giménez not in Guardians lineup on Friday
Andrés Giménez is not in the Guardians’ starting lineup for Friday night’s soiree against the Braves.

Advice: The switch-hitting 25-year-old infielder went hitless (0-for-10) during their series against the Red Sox to start the week, so perhaps Guardians’ skipper Stephen Vogt just wants to give him a day to clear his head. Gabriel Arias will start in his place at second base and will bat seventh against Chris Sale and the Braves on Friday evening in Atlanta. Rotoworld Today, 1:55 pm
    • Sitting versus lefty
Gimenez is not in the lineup for Friday's game in Atlanta.

Advice: Atlanta is starting southpaw Chris Sale, so it's not a bad day for the left-handed hitting Gimenez to get a breather. Gabriel Arias will handle second base Friday. Rotowire.com Today, 12:52 pm
    • Nabs fifth steal
Abrams went 1-for-4 with a run scored and a stolen base in Thursday's loss to the Dodgers.

Advice: The 23-year-old shortstop saw a nine-game hitting streak end on Wednesday, but he wasted no time getting going again. Over his last 14 contests since returning from a minor finger injury, Abrams is slashing .293/.349/.638 with four of his six homers and two of his five steals on the season. • Reaches three times, swipes base
Betts went 2-for-3 with a double, a walk, a run and a stolen base against the Nationals in Thursday's 2-1 victory.

Advice: Betts scored the decisive run in the contest by walking, swiping second base and crossing the plate on a Freddie Freeman double in the eighth inning. Betts seems to be running more frequently so far this season -- the stolen base was his sixth of the campaign through 27 contests, putting him well on pace to reach 20 steals for the first time since 2018. That has to be sweet music to his fantasy managers' ears, and Betts is paying huge dividends in other areas as well, slashing .374/.477/.636 with six homers, 21 RBI and 27 runs. • Takes loss against Royals
Berrios (4-1) took the loss Thursday against Kansas City, allowing two runs on three hits and three walks with a strikeout over five innings.

Advice: All of the damage against Berrios came via a Salvador Perez two-run home run in the first inning. Berrios failed to complete six innings for the first time this season, an impossible task considering Thursday's game was called due to rain after five frames. The outing snapped Berrios's scoreless inning streak that spanned 21.2 innings. He's tentatively scheduled for another start against the Royals early next week. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:46 pm
