    • Max Meyer strikes out four on Friday at Triple-A
      Max Meyer struck out four and allowed two runs over four innings on Friday for Triple-A Jacksonville.

      Advice: So much for the whole notion from Marlins manager Skip Schumaker that Meyer would be returning to the majors “soon.” While Miami’s starting rotation continues to struggle, Meyer hasn’t exactly delivered dominant performances his last few times out. Still, he’s a vastly superior option than the cromulent journeymen the Marlins keep throwing out there. It’s only a matter of time before the 25-year-old top pitching prospect gets another shot after having his workload closely monitored in the minors over the last few months. His fastball/slider combo remains outstanding and gives him a shot at immediate fantasy relevance once the Marlins finally decide to let him pitch in the majors again. Rotoworld Saturday, 3:45 am

    • Deployed in eighth inning
      Munoz walked one and struck out three in a scoreless and hitless eighth inning to earn a hold in Friday's 3-2 win over the Rangers.

      Advice: Munoz has been dealing with a back issue for most of June so far, but he's still seen high-leverage work when available. The right-hander was deployed in the eighth inning Friday against the top of the Rangers' lineup, while Ryne Stanek got the call in the ninth and earned the save. Munoz has picked up three holds and a loss over his last four outings, but it seems this is less about his injury and more about a matchups-based approach to the late innings by manager Scott Servais.     • Ranger Suárez allows just one run against Orioles
      Ranger Suárez scattered six hits across 6 2/3 innings in a no-decision on Friday against the Orioles. He struck out six, walked two, and allowed one earned run.

      Advice: Relative to the rest of his season, this was a difficult start for Suárez and he still allowed just one run against one of the best offenses in baseball. He kept the ball down, mixed all five of his pitches, and hit his spots when he needed to. Especially tough on lefties, he made Gunnar Henderson look as frustrated as he’s been all season with two nasty punch outs. Suárez’s Cy Young campaign will march on next week against the Padres.       Gil (9-1) picked up the win Friday over the Red Sox, allowing one run on four hits and four walks over five innings. He struck out four.

      Advice: Gil struggled with his command, but he managed to limit Boston to a lone fourth-inning run. The 26-year-old right-hander allowed three runs in his last outing against the Dodgers, but he's held opponents to one run or fewer in eight of his last nine starts. Gil's ERA is down to 2.03 with a 0.98 WHIP and 96:39 K:BB across 80 innings this year. He's currently slated for a road matchup with the Orioles in his next outing. Rotowire.com Friday, 8:22 pm

    • Tarik Skubal gives up four runs in loss to Astros
      Tarik Skubal struggled in Friday night’s loss to the Astros, giving up four runs on six hits over his 6 1/3 innings of work.

      Advice: Skubal recorded only two strikeouts in the ballgame while allowing one base on balls. He kept the Astros’ offense completely off the board and was engaged in a scoreless pitcher’s duel heading to the sixth inning. They broke through there though, as Jose Altuve doubled, Alex Bregman smacked an RBI triple, Yordan Alvarez followed with a sacrifice fly and Mauricio Dubon tacked on a two-run homer. Skubal got 13 swings and misses on just 84 pitches on the night, posting a CSW of 24 percent. Now 8-2 on the season, he’ll carry a pristine 2.20 ERA, 0.91 WHIP and a 98/16 K/BB ratio (86 innings) into Wednesday’s matchup against the Braves in Atlanta. Rotoworld Friday, 8:09 pm

      Skubal (8-2) took the loss Friday in Houston, allowing four runs on six hits and one walk over 6.1 innings. He struck out two.

      Advice: Skubal failed to produce a quality start for just the fourth time in 14 outings this season. After completing five scoreless innings, the Tigers lefty allowed all four of his runs in the sixth, capped by a Mauricio Dubon two-run homer. In 86 innings this year, Skubal sports a 2.20 ERA, 0.91 WHIP and 98:16 K:BB. The 27-year-old is currently scheduled to make his next start against Atlanta on the road.     • Luis Gil defeats Red Sox to improve to 9-1
      Luis Gil picked up his ninth victory of the season on Friday night, limiting the Red Sox to just one run on four hits over his five innings of work.

      Advice: Gil racked up six strikeouts on the evening while allowing four walks. The lone tally against him in the ballgame came on a run-scoring double off the bat of Enmanuel Valdez in the fourth inning. Otherwise, he was locked in and able to make big pitches when he needed to in order to escape trouble. Gil generated 13 whiffs on 104 pitches in the contest — nine of them on his fastball — while posting a CSW of 26 percent. Now 9-1 on the year, he’ll bring an impressive 2.03 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and a 96/39 K/BB ratio (79 2/3 innings) into Friday’s showdown against the Braves. Rotoworld Friday, 7:48 pm

    • Returns with loss Thursday
      Munoz (back) picked up the loss Thursday as the Mariners fell to the White Sox, allowing an unearned run in the 10th inning.

      Advice: Munoz allowed a walk and a hit before a fielder's choice brought home the automatic runner.     • Blows fourth save Thursday
      Holmes (1-2) allowed two runs on three hits in two-thirds of an inning, taking the loss and a blown save in Thursday's 4-3 loss to the Royals.

      Advice: Holmes was one out away from his 20th save of the season before serving up a two-run double to Maikel Garcia. The 31-year-old closer had gone nine straight appearances without allowing a run and still carries an impressive 1.80 ERA for the season. As the ninth-inning man for the club with the most wins in MLB, he remains one of the safest options at the position, with his 19 saves being tied for third most this season.
