    • Set for big-league debut
Skenes' contract was purchased from Triple-A Indianapolis ahead of his big-league debut Saturday against the Cubs.

Advice: Skenes is the best pitching prospect to come along in over a decade, and his big-league debut is as highly anticipated as any pitching prospect's debut in recent memory. The big 6-foot-6 righty not only had the best statistical performance of any starter in the minors this year, but he has the best pure stuff as well. Skenes logged a 0.99 ERA, 0.91 WHIP, a 42.9 percent strikeout rate and a 7.6 percent walk rate in 27.1 innings at Triple-A. He has averaged just under five innings per start over his last three starts, but after throwing 129.1 innings in 2023, he should be able to push toward 160 total innings this year with good health. • Pirates summon Paul Skenes for MLB debut
Pirates selected the contract of RHP Paul Skenes from Triple-A Indianapolis.

Advice: Skenes will take the ball on Saturday afternoon against the Cubs at PNC Park in the most anticipated pitching debut since Stephen Strasburg back in 2010. The flame-throwing 21-year-old first-overall selection from the 2023 MLB Draft has checked every box this season for Triple-A Indianapolis during his meteoric ascent, posting a microscopic 0.99 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and 45/8 K/BB ratio across 27 1/3 innings (seven starts). He projects as an immediate impact fantasy contributor, thanks to his elite strikeout upside, despite some looming workload limitations. Rotoworld Today, 7:45 am

    • Picks up 12th save
Holmes earned the save in Friday's 2-0 win over the Rays, working around a hit and two walks while striking out three in a scoreless ninth inning.

Advice: The Rays loaded the bases against Holmes in the ninth before the right-hander struck out Jonny DeLuca for the final out. Holmes has yet to allow an earned run this year, pitching to a 1.04 WHIP with 21:3 K:BB over 17.1 innings. He's up to 12 saves, tied with Kyle Finnegan and Robert Suarez for the league lead. • Takes fourth loss
Jones (2-4) took the loss Friday against the Cubs, allowing three runs (two earned) on seven hits and two walks over six innings. He struck out four.

Advice: Jones allowed a solo homer to Cody Bellinger in the first inning before the Cubs tacked on runs in the fifth and sixth. The 22-year-old Jones has yet to allow more than three runs in a start this season -- his ERA sits at 2.68 with a 0.87 WHIP and 56:7 K:BB across 47 innings in his rookie campaign. Jones is currently lined up for a rematch with Chicago on the road in his next start. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 8:50 pm

    • Jared Jones turns in quality start in loss
Jared Jones yielded three runs — two earned — in six innings Friday in a loss to the Cubs.

Advice: The unearned run was the product of Yasmani Grandal losing the ball on the tag on what should have been a very nice play to get Nico Hoerner at home. It’s rare to see errors called on such things, but Grandal had plenty of time to get the tag down after a fantastic relay from Oneil Cruz and just botched it. Jones finished with just four strikeouts tonight despite getting 18 whiffs. Part of the problem was that he had only nine called strikes on his 87 pitches. He’s now 2-4, even though his ERA stands at 2.68. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:46 pm

    • Continues dominant run
Suarez (7-0) allowed three hits and two walks over seven shutout frames Friday, striking out nine while earning a win over the Marlins.

Advice: It was another terrific outing for Suarez, who took advantage of a soft matchup against Miami by turning in his fourth scoreless outing of the year. He punched out a season-high nine batters and let only two Marlins get into scoring position. Suarez has tossed seven consecutive quality starts, earning a win in each. He lowered his ERA to 1.50 with a 55:8 K:BB through 54 frames. Suarez is currently in line for a home matchup with the Mets next week. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 7:38 pm
    • Ranger Suárez dominates again in win over Marlins
Ranger Suárez delivered yet another dominant performance in Friday night’s victory over the Marlins, racking up nine strikeouts over seven innings of shutout baseball.

Advice: The 28-year-old southpaw scattered just three hits on the evening while issuing two free passes. While two of the three hits that he allowed were doubles, the Marlins never seriously threatened against him. Suárez got nine swings and misses on 97 pitches on the night, posting an elite CSW of 36 percent. He now sits at 7-0 on the season with an impeccable 1.50 ERA, 0.72 WHIP and a 55/8 K/BB ratio over 54 innings through his first eight starts. He’ll look to keep the good times rolling when he takes the mound against the Mets on Wednesday night. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:08 pm
    • Clay Holmes walks tightrope, escapes with save
Clay Holmes walked the tightrope in the ninth inning on Friday night, but escaped with his 12th save of the season after stranding the bases loaded with a two-run lead.

Advice: Holmes — who has yet to allow an earned run through 17 1/3 innings to begin the season — really had to work in this one. He issued a leadoff walk to Yandy Díaz and a one-out walk to Josh Lowe — striking out Randy Arozarena and Isaac Paredes in-between. He then allowed a two-out single to Austin Shenton that loaded the bases before striking out Jonny DeLuca after a six-pitch battle to end it. He now paces the league with 12 saves and has a 21/3 K/BB ratio to go along with it. Rotoworld Yesterday, 6:33 pm
    • Nails down first save
Sewald earned the save in Thursday's 5-4 win over the Reds, striking out two in a perfect ninth inning.

Advice: After allowing a home run to Tyler Stephenson in his season debut Tuesday, Sewald looked much better in his first save chance Thursday, striking out Will Benson and Stephenson to close out the one-run victory. The 33-year-old Sewald is expected to step back in as Arizona's primary closer after missing the first month of the season with an oblique injury. He recorded 34 saves last year while pitching to a 3.12 ERA in 60.2 innings between Arizona and Seattle. Rotowire.com Thursday, 3:58 pm
