    • Andrés Muñoz closes out Orioles on Saturday
      Andrés Muñoz served up a solo home run against the Orioles in the ninth inning on Saturday, but managed to escape the frame with a one-run lead to earn his eighth save of the season.

      Advice: Muñoz came on after the Mariners scored a pair of runs in the eighth inning to take the lead, and despite the solo homer he made it stand up. He struck out Cedric Mullins and got Kyle Stowers to line out to first base to start the inning. The 25-year-old right-hander then fell behind Gunnar Henderson and served up a two-out, solo blast that pulled the Orioles to within a run. That would be as close as they would get though as he punched out Adley Rutschman to end it. Munoz now holds a 1.86 ERA to go along with eight saves and a pair of victories on the season.     • Deployed in eighth inning Friday
      Suarez earned a hold against Atlanta on Friday, allowing two hits and striking out two batters over one inning.

      Advice: Suarez has been one of the best closers in baseball this season with 12 saves (in 12 chances) and a 0.47 ERA, so his usage in the eighth inning against Atlanta was not a demotion. Rather, the right-hander was called upon to face the heart of Atlanta's formidable lineup, and though he gave up singles to Marcell Ozuna and Chadwick Tromp, Suarez managed to emerge from the outing with his 16-game scoreless streak intact. The 33-year-old should see most of his work in the ninth inning going forward, though Friday's usage is an indication that manager Mike Shildt won't hesitate to use Suarez in the highest-leverage situations prior to the ninth if the situation calls for it.     • Notches 13th save
      Holmes walked one and struck out two in a scoreless ninth inning Friday to record his 13th save of the season in a 4-2 win over the White Sox.

      Advice: The right-hander is back in a four-way tie for the league lead in saves with Emmanuel Clase, Kyle Finnegan and Ryan Helsley, but Holmes is the only one of the quartet who still sports a 0.00 ERA.     • Robert Suarez faces heart of Braves lineup in 8th
      Robert Suarez worked the eighth against the Braves on Friday and picked up his first hold by pitching a scoreless inning.

      Advice: The Padres don’t usually play matchups with their closer, but they did tonight with No. 2 hitter Ozzie Albies due up to start the eighth. It all worked out perfectly; Suarez gave up a couple of hits, but he protected the two-run lead, and then Jeremiah Estrada locked things up against the bottom of the order in the ninth.       Clay Holmes struck out two White Sox to earn the save on Friday. He also walked one.

      Advice: Holmes has arguably been the best relief pitcher in baseball this season not named Mason Miller. Yet to allow an earned run, he suppresses hard contact at an impressive clip and is running a career best 29 K%. Rotoworld Friday, 7:08 pm
       
    • Delivers five-out save Wednesday
      Munoz gave up a hit and struck out three over 1.2 scoreless innings Wednesday to record his seventh save of the season in a 4-2 win over the Royals.

      Advice: Austin Voth ran into trouble in the eighth inning, so Munoz got the call with runners on second and third and only one out to protect a 3-1 lead. The Mariners' closer did allow an inherited runner to score, but Seattle got the run right back in the bottom of the frame and Munoz dominated the ninth. It's the fourth time this season he's worked more than one inning to notch a save, and with Matt Brash (elbow) done for the year and Gregory Santos (lat) potentially not back until the All-Star break, Munoz may have to continue putting in extra work until Seattle settles on a new setup crew.       Sewald worked a perfect ninth inning Wednesday to record his second save of the season in a 2-1 win over the Reds.

      Advice: The right-hander needed only eight pitches (four strikes) to get the job done. Sewald has been his usual effective self since making his season debut May 7, giving up just one run with a 4:1 K:BB in his first four innings, and he has a firm hold on the closer role for Arizona.       Andrés Muñoz slammed the door on the Royals on Wednesday afternoon, recording the final five outs to protect a two-run lead and earn his seventh save of the season.

      Advice: The 25-year-old right-hander came on with runners at second and third with one out in the eighth inning and the Mariners leading 4-1. He did allow a run to score as Bobby Witt Jr. grounded out to second base, but then Muñoz punched out Vinnie Pasquantino to end the threat. He returned for the ninth where he allowed a leadoff double to Salvador Perez but nothing more — finishing the frame with a pair of strikeouts.     • Paul Sewald quiets Reds to collect second save
      Paul Sewald tossed a perfect ninth inning on Wednesday against the Reds to collect his second save of the season.

      Advice: Sewald got the call to protect a one-run lead in the bottom of the ninth after Lourdes Gurriel Jr. put Arizona ahead in the top of the frame with a two-out RBI double. He got Mike Ford to ground out before coaxing a harmless pop up from Spencer Steer and a fly out from Jeimer Candelario to end the contest. The 33-year-old veteran stopper has converted both of his save chances to go along with a 2.25 ERA, 0.75 WHIP and 4/1 K/BB ratio across four innings (four appearances) since returning from the injured list back on May 7.
