    • Allows run but converts save
Estevez allowed a run on two hits and a walk without striking out a batter over one inning, earning the save in Monday's 9-7 win over the Astros.

Advice: Estevez's last two outings came in non-save situations after he blew a save May 10 versus the Royals. The closer is now 7-for-10 in save chances this season, though there are some warning signs reemerging after he struggled late in 2023. He's now at a 5.17 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 17:2 K:BB through 15.2 innings this season. As long as the walk rate stays down, Estevez should be able to right the ship, but he's allowed multiple baserunners in six of his last 10 outings. Rotowire.com 46 minutes ago
    • Carlos Estévez records save after allowing run
Carlos Estévez picked up his seventh save despite giving up a run in the ninth Monday against the Astros.

Advice: Estévez gave up two hits and a walk after the outstanding fortune of Jo Adell denying Yainer Diaz a possible homer or at least a double to begin the inning. Estévez is sporting a 5.17 ERA through 15 2/3 innings this season, and he’s lucky that neither Robert Stephenson (out for the season) or José Soriano (in the rotation) is currently an alternative in the closer’s role for the Angels. • Manny Machado doubles twice to lead Padres
Manny Machado doubled twice and drove in two runs as the Padres edged the Braves 6-5 in the first game of Monday’s doubleheader

Advice: The two-run hit came in a four-run eighth inning rally that proved decisive. The previous double was Machado’s first extra-base hit since May 4. He also had his first multi-RBI game since that date. We were hoping his numbers would get better as his shoulder got further removed from surgery, but his current .639 OPS is 100 points lower than his mark from a month ago. • Matt Olsen hits sixth homer against Padres
Matt Olson went 2-for-4 with a homer and two RBI versus the Padres in the first game of Monday’s doubleheader.

Advice: Olson’s homer, a no-doubter off Dylan Cease, was his sixth of the year. That’s way off last year’s pace, but his barrel and hard-hit rates are completely intact. There’s some bad luck involved here, but it also seems to be the case that balls just aren’t traveling as far this year as they did last season. Rotoworld Today, 1:38 pm

    • Expected to miss 2-to-4 weeks
Rays manager Kevin Cash said Monday that he expects Eflin (back) to be sidelined for 2-to-4 weeks, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Advice: Eflin landed on the 15-day injured list Monday with a lower-back injury that he felt crop up toward the end of his last start. The right-hander said it feels similar to an injury that cost him two weeks last season. While the hope is that the absence will be similar in length this time around, his manager has allowed for the possibility for it to be a bit longer. Rotowire.com Today, 1:13 pm

    • Rays place Zach Eflin on IL with back injury
Rays placed Zach Eflin (lower back inflammation) on the 15-day IL.

Advice: Eflin had a shaky start on Saturday, allowing four runs over six innings against the Blue Jays. Perhaps his back was an issue then. The Rays made his IL designation retroactive to Sunday, but he will still miss at least two starts as he recovers. The 30-year-old has a 4.12 ERA, 1.17 WHIP, and a 44/4 K/BB ratio across 59 innings but it’s unclear who will take his spot in the rotation, but perhaps the Rays will opt to bring Ryan Pepiot back from his leg injury without a rehab assignment. • Placed on IL with back injury
The Rays placed Eflin on the 15-day injured list Monday, retroactive to May 19, with lower-back inflammation, Tricia Whitaker of Bally Sports Sun reports.

Advice: Eflin last pitched Saturday in Toronto, allowing four runs over six innings. It's not clear whether he developed the injury during that outing or another time, but either way he will be sidelined for at least the next two weeks. Ryan Pepiot (leg) is expected back from the IL this week and can slide into Eflin's rotation spot. Rotowire.com Today, 11:35 am

    • Swipes third bag
Jimenez went 1-for-4 with a stolen base Sunday against the Yankees.

Advice: Jimenez had a hit in all three games of the team's weekend series, but none went for extra bases, and he also didn't record any RBI or runs. However, he did steal his third base of the season Sunday and his second in his last four games. It's unclear what has led to his sudden aggressiveness on the basepaths, as he had never attempted a stolen base across the first five seasons of his career. Rotowire.com Today, 6:45 am

    • Impresses in no-decision
Greene did not factor into the decision Sunday against the Dodgers, allowing two runs on four hits and two walks while striking out eight over 6.1 innings.

Advice: Greene's one major mistake in Sunday's outing was surrendering a two-run homer to Andy Pages in the fourth. That was the only extra-base hit he allowed in the game. He racked up over six strikeouts for the first time since April 16 and generated 22 whiffs, with a good majority of those coming from his fastball that was averaging 98.8 MPH on the afternoon. He now owns a 2.03 ERA over his last five starts, and for the year owns a 3.22 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 66:24 K:BB in 58.2 innings. He currently lines up for a rematch with the Dodgers at home this weekend. Rotowire.com Today, 3:42 am
