Duran struck out two batters in a scoreless eighth inning and earned a hold during Monday's win over Seattle.

Advice: Duran was called upon to face the Mariners' 9-1-2 hitters in a 3-1 contest. After earning a save in each of his first two appearances of 2024, he's picked up a hold in his last two games. Luis Castillo gave up three runs — two earned — over 6 2/3 innings in a loss Monday to the Twins.

Advice: Castillo allowed just an unearned run over the first six, but two more crossed the plate in the seventh. The right-hander struck out seven against three walks, and it was another solid outing for the 31-year-old right-hander. The Seattle Times’ Adam Jude suggests that Bryan Woo (elbow) could be activated form the IL this weekend to face the Athletics.

Advice: Woo was impressive in his last start at Triple-A, throwing 66 pitches while averaging 95.7 mph on his fastball. He now has a 17-to-0 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 11 1/3 scoreless innings across his three rehab appearances with Tacoma, while allowing just five hits. However, Jude notes that “the team wants to see how Woo feels over the next couple of days before finalizing plans to activate him.” With Emerson Hancock set to make his start against the Twins on Tuesday, his turn in the rotation would come up again this weekend against Oakland, and Woo could be activated to take his place. He certainly looks ready and Jude confirms that, “The club does not plan to go with a six-man rotation and would prefer to keep Hancock stretched out in Triple-A, as opposed to keep him in the majors to pitch out of the bullpen.” Rotoworld Yesterday, 12:04 pm

McArthur (1-1) blew a save and picked up the loss after he pitched two innings, surrendering two runs (one earned) on four hits while striking out three batters in Sunday's 3-2 extra-inning defeat to the Rangers.

Advice: McArthur entered the game with the Royals up 2-1 in the top of the ninth inning and gave up a game-tying solo home run to Jonah Heim with one out in the inning. He later returned for the top of the 10th frame, allowing the inherited runner to score on an RBI single by Nathaniel Lowe. The blown save was McArthur's second in nine total save opportunities this season, and he currently possesses a 2.87 ERA and 1.28 WHIP with 18 strikeouts over 15.2 innings in 13 appearances this season. Woo (elbow) struck out six and allowed three hits and no walks over five shutout innings in his third rehab start Saturday with Triple-A Tacoma.

Advice: Woo was about as sharp as the Mariners could have hoped in what was likely the final start of his rehab assignment, as he built up to 66 pitches (44 strikes) while making quick work of the Triple-A Sacramento lineup. Provided Woo experiences no complications with his right elbow during a bullpen session within the next couple of days, he should be cleared to return from the 15-day injured list to make his 2024 Mariners debut later this week. Emerson Hancock has been filling in as the Mariners' No. 5 starter while Woo has been out, but Seattle could have room in the rotation for both hurlers if George Kirby (knee) is forced to the 15-day IL.
