    • Nico Hoerner picks up three more hits vs. Astros
Nico Hoerner went 3-for-5 against the Astros on Thursday.

Advice: Hoerner singled twice and added a double. The 26-year-old now has his average to .300 to go with a .785 OPS. This makes back-to-back multi-hit games for Hoerner, and he appears to be figuring things out after a slow start on the season. Fantasy managers sure would like to see more running from a player that stole 43 bases last year, as Horner is still stuck on one stolen base in 2024. Rotoworld Today, 2:09 pm

    • Héctor Neris collects third SV of season Thursday
Héctor Neris fired a scoreless ninth to pick up a save Thursday against the Astros.

Advice: Neris did make things interesting, as he walked a pair of hitters to put the go-ahead run at the plate. Ultimately the 34-year-old was able to get the job done, and he now has three saves on the season after not opening the year in the closing role. Rotoworld Today, 2:09 pm

    • Javier Assad holds Astros to one run over 5 2/3
Javier Assad struck out five over 5 2/3 innings while allowing just a run in a no-decision against the Astros on Thursday.

Advice: Assad scattered four hits and issued one free pass. The right-hander got off to a rough start while allowing a run in the first, but he was excellent for the next five-plus frames. Unfortunately for him, the Cubs and fantasy managers who started Assad, he didn’t get the run support necessary to qualify for a victory. He’ll be back on the bump in New York next week against the Mets. Rotoworld Today, 2:09 pm

    • Gets first off day of season
Morel is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Astros.

Advice: The Cubs will hand Morel his first day off of the season while he's fallen into a slump at the dish of late; he's gone 4-for-45 (.089 average) and is getting on base at a .222 clip over his last 13 games. Morel still looks to be entrenched in an everyday role at third base, but Nick Madrigal will occupy the hot corner Thursday. Rotowire.com Today, 10:02 am

    • Nabs second straight victory
Taillon (2-0) earned the win over Houston on Wednesday, allowing two runs (one earned) on seven hits and two walks while striking out four batters over 5.2 innings.

Advice: Taillon yielded a fair amount of baserunners, but he was unscored upon outside of a two-run third inning. The right-hander notched just five whiffs among his 89 pitches, though that didn't prevent him from picking up his second straight victory to begin the campaign. Taillon got a late start to the season after opening on the injured list due to a back injury, but he already seems to be settled in as a key piece of Chicago's rotation. • Dansby Swanson hits first homer since April 8
Dansby Swanson slugged a three-run homer on Wednesday, propelling the Cubs to a 4-3 victory over the Astros.

Advice: Swanson connected for a tone-setting homer off Astros rookie right-hander Spencer Arrighetti as part of Chicago’s four-run opening frame, which wound up being enough offense for Jameson Taillon and a quartet of Cubs relievers. It was his third long ball of the season and first time he’s gone deep since April 8. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:52 pm

    • Héctor Neris collects save for Cubs on Wednesday
Héctor Neris allowed one run in the ninth inning on Wednesday against the Astros, but still managed to hang on for his second save of the season.

Advice: It’s notable that Neris got the call once again to guard a two-run lead in the final frame after Adbert Alzolay pitched in the sixth inning and Mark Leiter Jr. worked a scoreless eighth inning. He gave up a leadoff homer to former teammate Jose Altuve, but managed to set down Alex Bregman, Yordan Alvarez and Kyle Tucker to preserve the victory. The 34-year-old veteran righty has plenty of closing experience, but he hasn’t been a full-time stopper since the 2019 campaign when he notched 28 saves for the Phillies. He looks like the add for fantasy managers at the moment in Chicago, but it wouldn’t be surprising to see Leiter vulture the occasional save. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:51 pm

    • Jameson Taillon stifles Astros to net second win
Jameson Taillon was charged with two runs (one earned) over 5 2/3 innings on Wednesday in a win over the Astros.

Advice: Taillon cobbled together his second straight strong performance since returning from a season-opening stint on the injured list, limiting Houston’s formidable lineup to just seven hits in this one. He struck out four and only issued two walks. He’ll bring a sparkling 1.69 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 8/2 K/BB ratio across 10 2/3 innings (two starts) into a road matchup on Monday against the Mets at Citi Field. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:50 pm
    • Allows run but secures save
Neris allowed a solo home run but still managed to secure the save in Wednesday's 4-3 win over the Astros. He struck out one.

Advice: Neris started the frame by allowing a home run to Jose Altuve, but he rebounded to retire the next three batters and earn his second save of the season. With Adbert Alzolay out of the closer's role following four blown saves, Neris figures to see plenty of endgame opportunities in the near future for the 15-9 Cubs. If the veteran pitches well, he could hold onto the job for the rest of the season. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 7:49 pm
