    • Won't make another rehab start
Manager Alex Cora said Friday that Pivetta (elbow) won't require another rehab start and will return from the 15-day injured list to make his next start with Boston, Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald reports.

Advice: Pivetta surrendered four runs over three-plus innings during his lone rehab start at Triple-A Worcester on Thursday. Despite his subpar performance, the Red Sox will waste no time returning the 31-year-old right-hander to their rotation, which has already been hit hard by injuries this season. Pivetta has given up one earned run across 11 innings through two starts in 2024. He appears in line to make his return to the rotation in Atlanta on Tuesday or Wednesday. • Makes rehab start
Pivetta (elbow) allowed four runs on three hits and four walks while striking out five over three-plus innings for Triple-A Worcester on Thursday.

Advice: Pivetta threw 62 pitches in the first and possibly only start while on a rehab assignment. He ran into immediate trouble, walking the first two batters of the game then giving up three straight singles. He settled in after that, retiring the next nine batters, before he was pulled following another two walks to lead off the fourth inning. "Repertoire felt good, just wasn't throwing a ton of strikes," Pivetta told Tommy Cassell of the Worcester Telegram & Gazette. "I have some mechanical adjustments to work on but we'll be fine." Red Sox manager Alex Cora previously indicated Pivetta would need just one rehab start, and if that's the case, the right-hander is on schedule for next week's two-game set against Atlanta on Tuesday or Wednesday. • Nick Pivetta throws 62 pitches in rehab start
Nick Pivetta (elbow) struck out five and gave up four runs over three innings on Thursday in a minor league rehab start for Triple-A Worcester.

Advice: As expected, Pivetta threw 62 pitches (36 strikes) in his rehab outing and figures to be ready to take the ball next week against the Braves, most likely on Tuesday, down at Truist Park. The 31-year-old righty has been out since early April recovering from a flexor strain in his right elbow. Rotoworld Thursday, 6:01 pm

    • Could return next week
Red Sox manager Alex Cora said Thursday that Pivetta (elbow) could rejoin the rotation next week during the team's May 7-8 series in Atlanta, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports.

Advice: Pivetta is slated to make a rehab start with Triple-A Worcester on Thursday, and it appearance that will be the lone appearance before he rejoins the Red Sox' rotation. The right-hander has been on the shelf since early April with a right elbow flexor strain. Pivetta was excellent before getting hurt, allowing just one run with a 13:1 K:BB over 11 frames in his first two starts. Rotowire.com Thursday, 10:43 am

    • Up to seven saves
McArthur picked up the save in Tuesday's 4-1 win over the Blue Jays, striking out one in a perfect ninth inning.

Advice: McArthur improved to 7-for-8 in save chances this season while extending his scoreless-inning streak to 10.2. The 27-year-old right-hander lowered his ERA to 2.63 with a 1.17 WHIP and 15:2 K:BB across 12 appearances (13.2 innings) this year. Rotowire.com Tuesday, 9:54 pm

    • McArthur notches seventh save of the season
James McArthur pitched a scoreless ninth inning to preserve a 4-1 win over the Blue Jays on Tuesday.

Advice: The tall right-hander didn’t allow a single baserunner while striking out one and picking up his seventh save of the season. He has been solid since taking the closer’s job from Will Smith, posting a 2.63 ERA on the year. While there have arguably been better pitchers in the Royals’ bullpen, McArthur is the clear favorite for saves and that isn’t likely to change any time soon. Rotoworld Tuesday, 8:11 pm

    • Nick Pivetta making rehab start on Thursday
Nick Pivetta (elbow) is scheduled to make a minor league rehab start on Thursday.

Advice: Pivetta is targeting an early-May return to Boston’s starting rotation after landing on the injured list back on April 9 with a flexor strain in his right elbow. The 31-year-old righty is only expected to require one rehab outing before returning. It’s unclear whether he’ll have any initial workload restrictions yet. Rotoworld Tuesday, 1:38 pm

    • Rehab start Thursday
Pivetta (elbow) is pencilled in to make a rehab start Thursday, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports.

Advice: He threw 50 pitches in a live batting practice session Saturday, so Pivetta may only need one rehab outing before rejoining the big-league rotation. If he does return after Thursday's rehab start, Pivetta would line up to start in the two-game series in Atlanta on either May 8 or May 9. Rotowire.com Saturday, 1:01 pm

    • Throws 50-pitch session
After throwing a 50-pitch live batting practice session Saturday, Pivetta (elbow) noted that he was able to throw all his pitches and was happy with his outing, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Pivetta continues to make progress in his rehab from a right elbow flexor strain that landed him on the 15-day IL on April 9. Before landing on the IL, Pivetta went 1-1 over two starts, allowing one run on eight hits while striking out 13 over 11 frames. Rotowire.com Saturday, 9:53 am
