      Advice: The Cincinnati offense had been quiet all night until Kimbrel gave the home team some life in the bottom of the ninth. He allowed three of the four batters he faced to reach base, prompting the hook from manager Brandon Hyde. Yennier Cano took over and closed the door to earn his first save of the season. Kimbrel earned the save Friday in his return following a brief absence due to back tightness, but he had squandered back-to-back save chances before that and Saturday's slip-up puts him on notice with a high-end arm in Cano representing a viable alternative to Kimbrel in the ninth.       Foley (2-1) allowed two runs on four hits without recording an out to blow the save and take the loss Friday against the Yankees.

      Advice: Foley came on in the ninth inning to protect a 1-0 Detroit lead, but the righty struggled and blew his first save of the season in 10 chances. He's still sitting with a solid 2.63 ERA overall and should remain the team's closer for now, though it's a fluid situation with Alex Lange, Shelby Miller and Andrew Chafin all potentially waiting in the wings if Foley stumbles again.       Craig Kimbrel returned to action and earned a save on Friday, striking out all three batters he faced versus the Reds.

Kimbrel had blown consecutive save chances before he was shut down, allowing three runs in just a third of an inning.       Jordan Hicks gave up four runs — two earned — and walked four in four innings Friday in a loss to the Phillies.

      Advice: Improved control has been a big key for Hicks in his successful run in the Giants rotation, but this is the second time in his last three starts that he’s walked four batters, giving him14 walks in 38 innings for the year.       Hicks (2-1) took the loss Friday against the Phillies, allowing four runs (two earned) on four hits and four walks over four innings. He struck out three.

      Advice: The Phillies scored three times off Hicks in the third inning before tacking on another run in the fourth, handing the right-hander his first loss of the year. While the four runs against Hicks were a season high, he's still yet to allow more than two earned runs through seven starts. Hicks still sports a stellar 1.89 ERA with a 1.03 WHIP and 30:14 K:BB across 38 innings. He'll look to get back in the win column in his next outing, currently scheduled for next week in Colorado.     • Jason Foley implodes in ninth inning on Friday
      Jason Foley suffered a brutal blown save against the Yankees on Friday night, surrendering hits to all four batters that he faced.

      Advice: Yikes. In what was a terrific pitcher’s duel that had the Tigers leading 1-0 heading to the ninth inning, Foley immediately got off on the wrong foot by allowing a leadoff single to Aaron Judge. Alex Verdugo then dropped down a bunt single with third baseman Zach McKinstry playing back, setting the stage for Giancarlo Stanton. Stanton then ripped an RBI double into right field on the second pitch he saw, and Anthony Rizzo followed with a run-scoring single to walk it off. Foley is probably still fine in the ninth inning, as he has converted nine of his first 10 save chances, though his 1.54 WHIP leads much to be desired. Rotoworld Friday, 7:13 pm

      Orioles’ manager Brandon Hyde told reporters on Friday that Craig Kimbrel (back) is ready to return to the team’s closer role.

      Advice: He may have gotten there sooner if the Orioles had a save chance arise over the past couple of days, but it sounds like the 35-year-old hurler is ready to rock for the weekend.       Advice: The 35-year-old hasn't seen the field since his back acted up Sunday against the A's, but he's ready to go after resting up over the past few days. Kimbrel allowed three runs and recorded just one out while blowing saves in each of his past two outings, though the injury may have played a role in those results.
