      Robert Suarez fired a perfect ninth inning on Wednesday against the Cubs to notch his 12th save of the season.

      Advice: Suarez got the call to guard a three-run lead in the final frame and neeeded just 11 pitches (seven strikes) to spin a flawless frame. The hard-throwing 33-year-old stopper has converted all 12 of his save opportunities this season to accompany a microscopic 0.55 ERA, 0.67 WHIP and 15/4 K/BB ratio across 16 1/3 innings (15 appearances).     • Pirates will promote Paul Skenes to start Saturday
      The Pirates announced Wednesday that top pitching prospect Paul Skenes will be promoted from Triple-A Indianapolis to make his major league debut Saturday against the Cubs.

      Advice: The 21-year-old fireballer was making a mockery of the hitting at Triple-A with Indianapolis, registering a 0.99 ERA, 0.91 WHIP and a ludicrous 45/8 K/BB ratio over 27 1/3 innings of work in his seven starts. The Pirates are going to limit his innings this season, which will curtail some of his upside in the wins department, but he’s going to be an immediate impact contributor in all fantasy leagues and needs to be rostered everywhere at this point.       James McArthur converted a two-out save on Wednesday against the Brewers.

      Advice: McArthur was summoned to record the final two outs in the ninth inning after Tyler Duffey gave up an RBI double to Brice Turang that put the potential tying runs in scoring position with only one out in the frame. He got William Contreras and Christian Yelich to both ground out harmlessly to put out the fire and preserve Kansas City’s victory.     • Making MLB debut Saturday
      The Pirates announced that Skenes will be promoted from Triple-A Indianapolis to start Saturday against the Cubs at PNC Park.

      Advice: Skenes likely won't be officially added to the 40-man roster and 26-man active roster until Saturday in advance of what should be one of the most highly anticipated MLB debuts for a pitching prospect in recent memory. The No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 First-Year Player Draft, Skenes has been utterly dominant through his first seven starts at Indianapolis this season, pitching to a 0.99 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and 45:8 K:BB over 27.1 innings. While he shouldn't be expected to immediately replicate the sterling ratios he produced in the minors, the flame-throwing right-hander should continue to make bats miss at a high clip as he makes the jump to the majors. The Pirates haven't revealed what the impending addition of Skenes means for the rest of the pitching staff, but the club could move to a six-man rotation to help keep the prized 21-year-old's workload in check during the 2024 season.       Advice: It's the first time Rodriguez has thrown off a mound since he landed on the 15-day injured list a week ago with right shoulder inflammation.       Advice: Pivetta will rejoin the Red Sox's rotation Wednesday in Atlanta. He went just three innings and threw only 62 pitches in his lone rehab outing last Thursday, so Pivetta probably won't be asked to handle a full workload in his return to the big-league rotation.
