• Moves off 40-man roster
The White Sox designated Garcia for assignment Sunday.

Advice: Garcia will cede his spot in the White Sox bullpen and on the 40-man roster to right-hander Brad Keller, whose contract was selected from Triple-A Charlotte in a corresponding move. Over his 14 relief appearances for the White Sox this season, Garcia picked up one win and one save, but his ratios (7.07 ERA, 1.93 WHIP and 15:11 K:BB) left much to be desired. • Heads back to Triple-A
The White Sox optioned Cannon to Triple-A Charlotte on Sunday.

Advice: Cannon's first stint in the big leagues last three turns through the rotation, with the rookie right-hander going 0-1 with a 7.24 ERA, 1.76 WHIP and 13:4 K:BB in 13.2 innings across those starts. The White Sox have a day off Thursday and could get by with a four-man rotation until Mike Clevinger is fully stretched out for starting duty and ready to make his season debut, which could come as soon as next Sunday. • Not in Sunday's lineup
Smith is out of the lineup for Sunday's game versus the Reds.

Advice: Smith has been surprisingly productive this season with an .852 OPS through 27 games, but he'll take a seat for Sunday's contest. Davis Wendzel will step in at the hot corner and bat seventh. Rotowire.com 11 minutes ago

  • Slugs homer in loss
Soler went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run and a walk in Saturday's 4-3 extra-inning loss to the Pirates.

Advice: Soler's 10th-inning blast got the Giants within a run again, but the comeback effort fell short. He went 0-for-12 with one walk and six strikeouts over the previous three games. Soler's power is at an acceptable level (five homers, .414 slugging percentage) through 28 games, but he's batting just .222 with a .736 OPS, well under his .250 average and .853 OPS from last season. • Takes extra-inning loss
Rogers (0-1) took the extra-inning loss Saturday versus the Pirates, allowing three runs (two earned) on two hits while striking out two over one inning.

Advice: Rogers gave up back-to-back home runs to Bryan Reynolds and Ke'Bryan Hayes in the 10th inning. Jorge Soler got two of those runs back in the bottom half of the frame, but the Giants couldn't come up with consecutive walk-off wins. Rogers hadn't given up a run over his previous six outings before Saturday. He's at a 4.32 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 7:2 K:BB through 8.1 innings this season, and he's added two holds but remains unlikely to challenge Camilo Doval for save chances. Rotowire.com 18 minutes ago
  • Moves up from Triple-A
The White Sox recalled Berroa from Triple-A Charlotte on Sunday.

Advice: Armed with an upper-90s fastball and a plus slider, Berroa has the makeup of a potential closer for the White Sox down the road, but he's likely to settle into a lower-leverage role initially while joining the big club for the first time this season. After contending with shoulder problems in spring training before falling short in his bid for a spot in the White Sox's Opening Day bullpen, Berroa struggled at Charlotte early in the season but seems to have found his footing of late. Over his last seven appearances prior to his call-up, Berroa struck out eight over seven scoreless innings, though he did give up five hits and six walks. Rotowire.com 20 minutes ago
  • One steal, two RBI in loss
Garcia went 2-for-5 with two RBI, a stolen base and one run scored in Saturday's 6-5 loss to the Tigers.

Advice: Garcia struggled in the middle of April, but he's now logged four multi-hit efforts over his last five games. He's added three steals and five RBI in that span while continuing to sit atop the Royals' order. The third baseman is slashing .222/.277/.380 with four home runs, seven steals, 20 RBI and 13 runs scored over 27 contests this season. Rotowire.com 21 minutes ago

  • Hit hard in loss
Stratton (2-2) allowed five runs on four hits and a walk while striking out one over one inning to take the loss versus the Tigers on Saturday.

Advice: Stratton had his worst outing of the season, as the Tigers rallied against him in the seventh inning. He's allowed multiple runs in three of his 12 appearances, but he's maintained scoreless efforts in the other nine. Saturday's poor showing skewed his ratios to a 6.23 ERA and 1.54 WHIP, while his 11:10 K:BB over 13 innings is far from an encouraging sign. Stratton has a save, two holds and a blown save, and it's unlikely one bad appearance will cost him late-inning looks in the long run. Rotowire.com 23 minutes ago
  • Back in action Sunday
Lee will start at catcher and bat eighth in Sunday's game against the Rays.

Advice: Lee was on the bench for both of the White Sox's previous two games while Martin Maldonado handled the catching duties. After Maldonado ended his stretch of wretched production at the plate by blasting a three-run home run and adding a single in Friday's 9-4 win, he was rewarded with another start in Saturday's 8-7 extra-inning win but went 0-for-2 with a walk. Maldonado is now holding down a lowly .304 OPS on the season -- well below Lee's .774 OPS in 47 plate appearances -- so expect the non-contending White Sox to lean on the younger and better-performing Lee their preferred option behind the dish.
