• Launches second homer
Arcia went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's 6-2 win over the Guardians.

Advice: The shortstop crushed a Pedro Avila two-seamer over the fence in left-center field, giving Atlanta its last offense of the night in the eighth inning. Arcia has both his homers on the year in the last nine games, and he's slashing .311/.340/.478 through 97 plate appearances with nine RBI and 12 runs as he proves his 2023 resurgence was no fluke. • Scheduled for back-to-back outings
Gibault (forearm) is scheduled to throw back-to-back games next week, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.

Advice: After experiencing renewed discomfort in his forearm, Gibault had a rehab assignment paused April 16 before returning to pitch Wednesday and again Friday. Next up are the back-to-back outings scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday. Presumably, that would be the right-handed reliever's final hurdle before activation. Rotowire.com 5 minutes ago

  • Another strong outing
Sale (3-1) picked up the win Friday, allowing one run on two hits and a walk over seven innings in a 6-2 victory over the Guardians. He struck out six.

Advice: The veteran lefty has been healthy and dominant to kick off 2024, and he completely shut down the Cleveland offense after serving up a leadoff homer to Steven Kwan. Sale has worked seven-plus innings in three straight starts for the first time since June 2018, and he's allowed three runs or less in four of his five outings so far for Atlanta. Sale will take a 3.69 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and 33:7 K:BB through 31.2 innings into his next start, which is scheduled to come on the road next week in Seattle. Rotowire.com 6 minutes ago

  • Pops third homer
Kwan went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's 6-2 loss to Atlanta.

Advice: He led off the game by ripping a Chris Sale sinker down the right-field line, but not much else went right for the Guardians on the night. Kwan managed only 11 homers total in his first two big-league seasons, but the 26-year-old already has three in 25 games to begin 2024. He's still making plenty of contact too, sitting third in the AL in batting average at .343, just behind Jose Altuve (.346) and Salvador Perez (.344). Rotowire.com 12 minutes ago
  • Stumbles in Atlanta
Allen (3-1) took the loss Friday, giving up four runs on five hits and two walks over 4.2 innings as the Guardians were downed 6-2 by Atlanta. He struck out five.

Advice: The 25-year-old southpaw was able to keep the ball in the park after serving up four homers across his last two starts, but there weren't many other positive takeaways from this performance. Allen tossed only 48 of 91 pitches for strikes, and he's been tagged for at least three runs in five of his six outings to begin the season. He'll carry a 5.46 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 26:11 K:BB through 31.1 innings into his next start, which lines up to come on the road next week in Houston. Rotowire.com 16 minutes ago
  • Tests come back clean
Fairbanks (arm) has no structural damage to his arm, MLB.com reports.

Advice: Fairbanks had an MRI done Tuesday and then had unspecified additional testing done later in the week. All exams came back clean, which is good news and provides some optimism that he'll avoid a lengthy absence. However, both Fairbanks and the team have cautioned that he does not have a timeline to be activated from the injured list. Rotowire.com 17 minutes ago

  • Ramping up at complex
Friedl (wrist) is ramping up baseball activities at the team's complex in Goodyear (Ariz.) and could begin playing games as a defensive player only this weekend, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.

Advice: After serving as a defensive player only, Friedl could move onto bunting in games and possibly a rehab assignment by the middle of next week. Cincinnati manager David Bell said he'll need between one and two weeks before being ready to return, noting the need to build up at-bats. Rotowire.com 17 minutes ago

  • Begins rehab assignment
Aranda (finger) joined Triple-A Durham on Friday to begin a rehab assignment, MLB.com reports.

Advice: Aranda played in a pair of extended spring training games before heading to Durham. He was able to do everything but swing a bat for the majority of his recovery, so he may not need much time in the minors before being activated. Rotowire.com 20 minutes ago
  • Making case for big-league debut
Mesa is slashing .297/.343/.547 through 16 games for Triple-A Jacksonville with four homers, 13 runs, 14 RBI and an impressive 5:7 BB:K.

Advice: Considering that Mesa posted a 22.9 percent strikeout rate at Double-A in 2023, the sudden and dramatic improvement in his plate discipline is intriguing. The 22-year-old took a big step forward last year with 18 homers and 16 steals in 123 games for Pensacola, and his development could be accelerating. If he continues to have little trouble with Triple-A pitchers, a big-league debut could be on the horizon, especially considering how little production the Marlins are getting from the likes of Nick Gordon and Avisail Garcia.
