• Paul Goldschmidt homers, knocks in two in win
Paul Goldschmidt snapped his skid with a solo homer and an RBI single as the Cardinals edged the Brewers 4-3 on Sunday.

Advice: Goldschmidt was 1-for-32 with 14 strikeouts this month. He did strike out twice more today, and his current 32% K rate is one reason to think he won’t be bouncing all of the way back from this hideous start. Still, things have to get better from here. He’s batting .197/.280/.279. Rotoworld Today, 3:46 pm
  • Bryse Wilson walks five in sloppy outing
Bryse Wilson yielded two runs in four-plus innings Sunday in a no-decision versus the Cardinals.

Advice: Wilson walked five and allowed five hits, so he was lucky to get out of this one with his ERA intact. He’s at 2.65 in five starts and six relief appearances this season. Next up for him will be a start in Houston next weekend. Rotoworld Today, 3:46 pm

  • Wisdom has three hits, HR in win over Pirates
Patrick Wisdom went 3-for-4 with a home run in the Cubs’ win over the Pirates on Sunday.

Advice: Wisdom laced a solo home run off Aroldis Chapman in the 10th inning that traveled 412 feet and left the bat at 106.8 mph. He also had a 105.5 mph single off Bailey Falter earlier in the game. The Cubs are only using him against left-handed pitching but that has helped his results so far this season, so he can be useful in deeper formats if the Cubs face a collection of lefties in a given week. • Kyle Hendricks returns from IL with solid start
Kyle Hendricks allowed one run on two hits in five innings in a no-decision against the Pirates.

Advice: Hendricks came off the IL and into a soft matchup and didn’t disappoint. He was, however, inconsistent with his command, starting off just nine of the 20 hitters he faced with a first-pitch strike and posting just a 46 percent zone rate overall, which is well below his normal averages. His changeup did miss tons of bats and carried him in this one, but he has a 10.04 ERA on the season and is a risky stream even against these same Pirates next week. Rotoworld Today, 2:26 pm

  • Making return from IL on Sunday
The Cubs reinstated Hendricks (back) from the 15-day injured list ahead of his start Sunday in Pittsburgh, Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune reports.

Advice: The Cubs initially planned to have Hendricks make the third start of his rehab assignment with Triple-A Iowa on Sunday, but he'll end up returning from the IL earlier than expected after rotation mate Jameson Taillon (back) wasn't available to start this weekend. Hendricks struck out 13 and allowed just three walks while giving up three runs over 9.1 innings between his two rehab outings, but he struggled mightily over his first five starts with the Cubs before landing on the shelf (0-3 record, 12.00 ERA, 2.10 WHIP in 21 innings). • Kyle Hendricks activated off IL for start vs. PIT
Cubs activated RHP Kyle Hendricks off the 15-day injured list.

Advice: Hendricks is reinstated to make the start Sunday against the Pirates. The 34-year-old veteran has not been effective thus far with a 12.00 ERA, but that’s a sample of just 21 innings. Jose Cuas is heading back to Triple-A in the corresponding transaction. Rotoworld Today, 7:43 am

  • Paul Goldschmidt strikes out four times in return
Paul Goldschmidt went 1-for-5 with four strikeouts on Saturday in the Cardinals’ loss to the Brewers.

Advice: Yikes. Goldschmidt was unable to really get anything going in his return to St. Louis’ lineup after receiving a couple days off to mentally reset and work on his swing. The 36-year-old veteran first baseman, who was the National League’s MVP Award winner just two seasons ago, is off to the worst start of his career, batting .190 (27-for-142) with two homers, 11 RBI and one steal through 37 contests. Perhaps the most alarming aspect of his early-season decline is that he’s striking out at a career-worst 31.7 percent clip so far. Simply put, it’s not what you want. Rotoworld Today, 3:34 am
  • Smacks solo shot in rehab debut
Gelof (oblique) played a full game at second base in Triple-A Las Vegas' loss to Round Rock on Saturday, going 1-for-5 with a solo home run.

Advice: Gelof's ability to both play a full game on defense and generate enough force with the bat to clear the fences speaks to his seemingly improved health. Gelof is set to be evaluated after each rehab game to determine his progress, and if he doesn't have any concerning residual effects overnight, the 24-year-old could be back in Las Vegas' lineup Sunday. • Starting Sunday in Pittsburgh
Hendricks (back) will return from the 15-day injured list to start Sunday in Pittsburgh, Maddie Lee of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Advice: Hendricks had been slated to make one more rehab start, but Jameson Taillon (back) isn't quite ready to start Sunday, so Hendricks will take the ball that day for the big club instead. The veteran hurler has been sidelined for the last three weeks with a lower-back strain but pitched well in two rehab outings, allowing three runs with a 13:3 K:BB in 9.1 frames. Hendricks held a woeful 12.00 ERA in five starts before getting injured, so fantasy mangers certainly need to see something positive before putting their trust in the right-hander.
