      Marcus Semien went 1-for-4 with a two-run homer on Wednesday against the Guardians.

      Advice: With the game scoreless through four innings, Semien put the Rangers on the board with a two-run blast off Carlos Carrasco in the fifth. It was the eighth home run of the season for the 33-year-old second baseman. Semien is hitting .276/.320/.464 with 33 runs scored, 31 RBI, and one steal across 206 plate appearances.       Tanner Houck couldn’t get through the sixth inning against the Rays, but still managed to strike out seven and allow just two earned runs in a loss Wednesday. He also gave up five hits and three walks.

      Advice: Houck was humming along until back-to-back singles in the sixth inning sent Alex Cora to the bullpen with Houck at 112 pitches, the highest total of his career. Greg Weissert then allowed both inherited runners to score, spoiling Houck’s chance for a victory. Still solid, he’s looked more mortal in his last three starts with a 3.86 ERA and 20.0 K%.       Walker went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 2-1 win over the Reds.

      Advice: Walker led off the second inning with his eighth homer of the season and first in 13 games. He entered the contest on a 1-for-16 run and is batting .217 for the month.       Christian Walker went 2-for-4 with a solo homer on Wednesday, leading the Diamondbacks to a 2-1 victory over the Reds.

      Advice: Walker crushed a no-doubter to left field off Reds starter Andrew Abbott in the second inning for his eighth round-tripper of the season. It was the first time he’s gone deep since a two-homer outburst back on April 30.       Sean Murphy (oblique) is expected to begin a minor league rehab assignment next week.

      Advice: It’s been a very slow and methodical progression for Murphy, who was diagnosed with a Grade 1 oblique strain at the end of March. He should only need a couple of games in the minor leagues before he’s ready to return to the Braves’ lineup. If all goes well, it’s possible that he could be ready to return next weekend.     • Cedric Mullins gets pulled for pinch-hitter
      Cedric Mullins, who was dropped to ninth in Baltimore’s lineup, was lifted for a pinch-hitter after opening up 0-for-2 on Wednesday.

      Advice: Mullins is 0-for-16 with eight strikeouts in his last five games and 5-for-59 with a 19/4 K/BB in his last 18 games. He was off to fine start before that, but the Orioles seem to have real concerns about the way he’s performing, given that he was just held out of the starting lineup twice against righties over the weekend.       Elias Díaz (hand) was held out of the Rockies’ starting lineup for Wednesday’s showdown against the Padres.

      Advice: The 33-year-old backstop was pulled from Tuesday’s contest due to left hand soreness and it sounds like it’s still bothering him on Wednesday so he’ll get another breather.       Advice: Whitlock pumped in 40 of his 61 pitches for strikes and induced 12 swings and misses, looking as strong as ever while pitching in a game for the first time since April 16. Even though he didn't get fully stretched out for a traditional starter's workload Wednesday, Whitlock could return from the 15-day injured list to make his next appearance out of the Red Sox rotation.
