• Not facing lefty
Sheets is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Astros.

Advice: Sheets will take a seat Tuesday with Framber Valdez on the mound for Houston. Corey Julks will fill the DH spot and bat seventh. Rotowire.com Today, 1:24 pm

  • Heads back to Triple-A
The Guardians optioned Manzardo to Triple-A Columbus on Tuesday.

Advice: Manzardo was brought up from Triple-A on May 6 and served mostly as a part-time starter during his first stint in the big leagues, slashing .207/.241/.329 with a 26.4 percent strikeout rate over 87 plate appearances. He'll head back to Triple-A to pick up more consistent playing time. Third baseman Jose Ramirez (personal) was reinstated from the paternity list in a corresponding move. Rotowire.com Today, 11:16 am

  • Guardians option Kyle Manzardo to Triple-A
Guardians optioned 1B Kyle Manzardo to Triple-A Columbus.

Advice: Manzardo is heading back to Triple-A with Jose Ramirez activated off the paternity list. The 23-year-old struggled in his 30 games with the Guardians with a .207 average and .571 OPS while striking out 23 times in 82 at-bats. There’s some long-term potential in Manzardo’s bat, but he may not get a chance again for a little while. Rotoworld Today, 11:11 am

  • Records first steal
Brooks went 0-for-4 with a walk and a stolen base in Monday's 7-6 win over the Cubs.

Advice: The steal was Brooks' first at the major-league level. The 28-year-old has seen most of his playing time at first base, but he's hitting just .143 over his first nine contests, which hasn't been good enough to keep Wilmer Flores on the bench. Brooks has added a meager .393 OPS, one RBI, three runs scored and a 3:6 BB:K through 24 plate appearances. Brooks' time on the major-league roster may come to a close when LaMonte Wade (hamstring) is able to return from the injured list. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 11:20 pm
  • Report: A’s designating J.D. Davis for assignment
The A’s have decided to cut J.D. Davis, according to ESPN’s Jeff Passan.

Advice: This is the move to make room for Lawrence Butler. We’re hard-pressed to see how Davis is worse than Seth Brown or even Abraham Toro, who has been pretty terrible since the A’s decided to make him their leadoff man. Still, none of this really matters — none of these guys are going to be part of the next competitive A’s team — but Davis might help someone else down the stretch. Rotoworld Yesterday, 8:31 pm

  • Designated for assignment
Davis was designated for assignment by the Athletics on Monday, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.

Advice: Davis will now be available to be claimed off waivers and if he has no takers, Oakland is expected to release the 31-year-old. After being released by the Giants in March, Davis compiled a .236 average with four home runs, five RBI and 12 runs scored over 123 at-bats in 39 games with the Athletics this season. • Back on bench Monday
Cave is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Dodgers.

Advice: Cave had started in 11 of the Rockies' last 12 games, but he'll head to the bench with Nolan Jones having returned from the injured list and with Brenton Doyle (knee) back in the lineup after a two-game absence. Though Cave has turned in a serviceable .250/.341/.389 slash line thus far in June, he could be relegated to a bench role now that Colorado has reclaimed some health in the outfield. • Taking seat Monday
Flores is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Cubs.

Advice: Flores had started at first base in each of the Giants' last five games, with three starts coming versus lefties and two coming versus right-handers. Though the Giants seem content to deploy Flores as their primary first baseman rather than a platoon bat while LaMonte Wade (hamstring) is on the injured list, Flores will nonetheless give way to rookie Trenton Brooks on Monday. • LaMonte Wade (hamstring) doubtful for Thursday
LaMonte Wade Jr. probably isn’t going to be able to make it back into the Giants lineup for the Rickwood game in Alabama on Thursday.

Advice: Wade has been aiming to play in the contest, but his strained left hamstring isn’t quite ready yet. The Giants have been getting by with Wilmer Flores and Trenton Brooks at first base. Brooks will most likely be demoted once Wade is ready. Rotoworld Yesterday, 3:32 pm
