• Cleared for activity
Walls (hip) reported to the Rays' spring training facility in Port Charlotte, Fla. earlier this week and will go through workouts for the next 10-to-14 days before beginning a rehab assignment, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Advice: According to Topkin, Walls will be going through a modified version of his own spring training while he builds up stamina and stacks up at-bats as he works his way back from the surgery he required last October to address a labral tear in his right hip. The Rays opted to shut Walls down in late April for two weeks after he experienced renewed inflammation in his hip, and the 27-year-old seemingly responded well to the extra time off. Since he's been on the injured list all season, Walls will presumably in store for an extended minor-league rehab assignment, making it unlikely that he's activated before the end of May. Whenever he's ready to go, Walls could threaten Jose Caballero for everyday duties at shortstop. Rotowire.com 21 minutes ago

  • Five innings on defense Tuesday
Diaz (calf) started at third base and played five innings in Triple-A Las Vegas' win over El Paso on Tuesday, going 1-for-3 with an RBI single.

Advice: Diaz picked up the first hit of his three-game rehab stint on his final at-bat of the evening, and he took another step in the right direction by logging five frames on defense for the second straight game. The veteran is likely to continue taking a day off between appearances for the moment as his ramp-up following a long layoff continues. Rotowire.com 27 minutes ago

  • Sent down to Triple-A
The Mariners optioned Haggerty to Triple-A Tacoma on Wednesday.

Advice: Haggerty hasn't been playing much and has done little in the opportunities he has received this season, recording one hit in 15 at-bats. Dominic Canzone (shoulder) was reinstated from the injured list and will take over Haggerty's spot on the 26-man active roster. Rotowire.com Today, 10:27 am

  • Mariners send Sam Haggerty to Triple-A
Mariners optioned INF/OF Sam Haggerty to Triple-A Tacoma.

Advice: Haggerty was 1-for-15 since being recalled on Apr. 29. His versatility makes him a fair enough 26th man, but the Mariners don’t have much need for him right now. Rotoworld Today, 10:23 am

  • Brewers demote Oliver Dunn to Triple-A
Brewers optioned INF Oliver Dunn to Triple-A Nashville.

Advice: Dunn got some time as the Brewers’ leadoff man last month, but he wound up hitting a modest .226/.278/.333 in 90 plate appearances during his first stint in the majors. There’s still some hope for him as a platoon option at second or third, but he needs to shed some strikeouts; he had a 39% K rate his first time around the league. Rotoworld Today, 9:42 am

  • Heading to minors
The Brewers optioned Dunn to Triple-A Nashville on Wednesday.

Advice: Though he served as Milwaukee's designated hitter in Tuesday's 4-3 win over the Pirates, Dunn's playing time had been relatively sparse since mid-April with Joey Ortiz overtaking him as the preferred option at third base. As a left-handed hitter, Dunn wasn't a fit for the Brewers as a short-side platoon player, either, so he'll head to Nashville to get some everyday playing time. Outfielder Chris Roller was called up from Triple-A in a corresponding move. Rotowire.com Today, 9:29 am

  • Mets designate Joey Wendle for assignment
Mets designated INF Joey Wendle for assignment.

Advice: It’s a little scary that the Mets have chosen to forgo carrying a legitimate backup middle infielder, but insurance there is all Wendle seemed to have to offer at this point. He was hitting .222/.243/.250 in 37 plate appearances for the Mets. Last year, he came in at .212/.248/.306 in 318 plate appearances for the Marlins. Rotoworld Today, 9:24 am

  • Cast off 40-man roster
The Mets designated Wendle for assignment Wednesday.

Advice: Unless another team opts to put in a waiver claim for Wendle, the Mets will owe him the money remaining on his one-year, $2 million deal. Signed in November to provide depth in the infield, Wendle rarely saw action for the Mets and struggled to produce in his limited opportunities, slashing .222/.243/.250 across 37 plate appearances. • Expected to be optioned
Dunn appears set to be optioned to Triple-A Nashville prior to Wednesday's game versus the Pirates, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Advice: The Brewers haven't announced any transactions as Wednesday's 1:10 p.m. ET opening pitch approaches, but Dunn no longer had a locker in the clubhouse. Dunn has slashed just .192/.240/.255 since April 16 and has seen his playing time slip, so his expected demotion doesn't come as a surprise. Rotowire.com Today, 8:52 am
