• Elects for surgery
Gasser will have surgery Monday to repair UCL damage in his left elbow, Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Advice: It's unclear whether Gasser is undergoing Tommy John surgery or the internal brace procedure, but he will be out for at least the next 12 months. It's tough timing for the promising young pitcher, as he had pitched well across his first five big-league starts, maintaining a 2.57 ERA and 1.04 WHIP in 28 innings. • Robert Gasser to undergo elbow surgery next week
Robert Gasser will undergo season-ending left elbow surgery on Monday.

Advice: The expectation all along was that Gasser was probably finished for the year, but the fact that he’s elected to undergo surgery — either a full Tommy John or less invasive internal brace procedure (A.K.A. the Seth Maness procedure) — following multiple medical opinions means he’ll miss at least the first half of the 2025 campaign as well. It’s a significant loss for Milwaukee’s starting pitching depth as he was just starting to establish himself at the highest level. There should be an exact timetable following next week’s procedure. • Stratton picks up fourth save Thursday
Chris Stratton picked up the save against the Athletics on Thursday.

Advice: Stratton’s save was his fourth of the year. James McArthur is still in the late inning mix for the Royals, but he entered in the seventh inning of a tie game. McArthur has only one save this month, but has finished four games. Rotoworld Today, 3:50 pm
  • Spence allows two runs in no-decision Thursday
Mitch Spence allowed two runs in six innings and got a no-decision against the Royals on Thursday.

Advice: Spence gave up six hits, walked one and struck out seven. Both of the runs he allowed came on solo home runs by Freddy Fermin. Spence has a 3.86 ERA and SO:BB of 50:15 in seven starts this year. The 26-year-old right-hander is set to face the Angels on the road.

  • Completes third bullpen session
Senzatela (elbow) tossed a 20-pitch bullpen session Tuesday, MLB.com reports.

Advice: The Rockies are bringing Senzatela along slowly as he works his way back from July 2023 Tommy John surgery, but he already has three bullpen sessions under his belt since being cleared for mound work earlier this month. Senzatela said that he won't be cleared to face hitters until he builds up to around 30-to-40 pitches in his side sessions. He thus looks to be at least a couple weeks away from pitching in live batting practice at the Rockies' facility in Arizona. Rotowire.com Today, 2:23 pm

  • Chris Flexen pitches well, but bullpen blows lead
Chris Flexen held the Astros to just one run over six innings, but didn’t factor in the decision Thursday.

Advice: Flexen pitched well, the White Sox bullpen did not. He scattered five hits while striking out six against three walks. The 29-year-old left the game with a 3-1 lead, but Chicago’s beleaguered relievers gave up the lead quickly after. Flexen gets the Dodgers next week. No thank you. Rotoworld Today, 2:04 pm

  • Twins designate Jay Jackson for assignment
Twins designated RHP Jay Jackson for assignment.

Advice: Jackson was tagged for three runs courtesy of a pair of homers during Thursday’s eventual loss to the Rays and has been removed from Minnesota’s 40-man roster, according to manager Rocco Baldelli after the contest. No word on the corresponding move yet. The 36-year-old journeyman reliever struggled to a bloated 7.52 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and 29/22 K/BB ratio across 26 1/3 innings (20 appearances) this season for Minnesota. Rotoworld Today, 1:58 pm

  • Designated for assignment
The Twins designated Jackson for assignment Thursday, Bobby Nightengale of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.

Advice: The move comes shortly after Jackson allowed three runs in an inning of work during Thursday's loss to the Rays. Jackson cleared waivers and accepted an outright assignment by the Twins last month, so he might wind up sticking around in the organization again. The club will announce a corresponding move prior to Friday's game in Oakland. Rotowire.com Today, 1:58 pm

  • Cardinals call up Adam Kloffenstein on Thursday
Cardinals recalled RHP Adam Kloffenstein from Triple-A Memphis.

Advice: Kloffenstein provides St. Louis with some extra long relief depth behind Thursday’s starter Andre Pallante. The 23-year-old righty earns his first promotion to the majors after compiling a respectable 3.97 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 68/29 K/BB ratio over 77 innings (14 starts) this season for Triple-A Memphis.
